Polly got screwed when she couldn't private order select beers that were unavailable to the rest of the state. Then Avenue became a bar that had everything else any bar in the city could get.

Why was she able to do that?
Seems to me if one person is able to do it for his/her business, everyone, business owner or just regular consumer, should be able to do the same.

Avenue Pub was at its best before breweries were able to have taprooms. Used to go for big releases like Grand Reserve or Mechahopzilla back in the early days of the local scene.

Back when there were just a couple kegs of one offs or something made just for the bar itself.
Probably is still a market for that, but the beers themselves would have to be priced high and that would deter.

I see 504 Craft Beer Reserve has a $75K GoFundMe running right now. I have to wonder if this same issue is what is knocking them down.

I used to be a regular in the Mug Club. Even though my politics never aligned with Polly or most of the employees it was like a second home for me. From all accounts Polly took better care of her employees than most businesses. Prior to Covid I stopped frequenting due to personal reasons and then started to hear the stories of the Gestapo-like treatment of their customers under the name of Covid to protect their employees. Enough for me to swear it off forever. Sad. Polly had many business relations with breweries around the world.
One of their big events were Zwanze Day where the Belgium brewery Cantillon would allocate a special brew to a handful of bars around the world. (just 25-30 in the US). Curious if they will lose that with new ownership.
