My uncle can make a smoker out of an old hot water heater and get better results than some amateur on a BGE.

Don't disagree.

But here's a few more thoughts:
a) I can't afford to hire your uncle to come cook for me and
b) a BGE allows amateurs like me to grill and smoke all sorts of stuff. The food may not be as good as the more experienced produces but it's still very good.

Grilling and smoking has never been my forte. Love the food. Hate being out in the heat forever. Reason b is why I got the egg. The food comes out miles better than it did on my other grills and smokers.

This is why many of us BGE owners do more grilling and smoking than ever before. I'm mostly a novice at this but I can cook something on my BGE and am amazed that 'I did that!'

I agree with you. There may be other grills/smokers that work as well, but I didn't have one of them and I had quite a few. The BGE has lived up to my expectations and more.

There is no use in arguing with these people... 99% of the ones who bash BGE's have never laid eyes on one much less cooked on one... R2R thought they were $125 and yet he's bashing it... Ignorance.

I don't own one, but one of my neighbors does. He grilled a homemade pizza for us in just a few minutes. Some of the best I have ever eaten.

I already have grills and smokers. Took a look at a medium size one at Costco a couple of months ago. Thought about buying it, but seems a little too small. Any of you people own a medium ?

If anyone is considering buying a BGE, make sure to take hard look at Grill Dome.

What's the grill dome sell for? I've heard good things about them.

From what I understand, they're very comparable/competitive in pricing to the BGE.

First we had Apple snobs, then beer snobs and now BGE snobs. I know a lot about smoking and grilling, can afford a BGE and my wife would let me have one. I choose to have a Weber Performer with a Weber Smokey Mountain for less and that actually does a better job at smoking and grilling. About the only thing a BGE has on this combo is that it uses less fuel.

You also need to learn what a Shift button is and when to capitalize letters.

This thread rocks!

FIL just got a BGE. He has only used it 3 times with "middling" success. He is not the chef or BBQ expert though. I am going to hav eto go over there and play around with it and show him what's what. If I like it I may buy a Kamodo type oven. It may be a BGE, Primo or another type.

The one thing I sayy for all these is that with minimla maintanance they should all last a lifetime. You may bequeeth it to your heirs.....

So, it's got that going for it.

ETA: Grill Domes....I have another type to review.

the fact that you went with this first tells me all I need to know about typical BGE owners. It's status, nothing more.

how is it status if it's hidden behind fences and under a cover in my backyard? wouldn't i have to flaunt it around for it to be a status symbol?

the first thing people complain about with ceramic cookers is the prices. it isnt just BGE.
