how is it status if it's hidden behind fences and under a cover in my backyard? wouldn't i have to flaunt it around for it to be a status symbol?

how many threads and posts have we had on here about them? Folks don't actually have to have witnesses. If it makes you feel better about yourself to own a BGE, so be it, but that is what a status symbol does for it's owner.

seems like there is only weekly these days, and they all go the same way

the first thing people complain about with ceramic cookers is the prices. it isnt just BGE.

Yes, but this seems to be short sighted to me, provided you are not retirement eligible.

Purchasing a ceramic cooker, any ceramic cooker, is likely to be the last BBQ/smoker purchase of your life. It will likely save you multiple BBQ/smoker purchases over your lifetime.

Not really talking about heavy duty charcoal grills, but my propane grills last about 5 years then it's time to change them out. If you buy one that lasts 10 years, it coasts the same as the BGE.

The only people who know I have one are the folks on this board who don't know me and people who may be around when I use it. I keep it out of site in the back yard, so it won't get stolen. I don't think it ups my status as a person, but it does up my status as griller and smoker because my results are much better than they were before. I like that status, especially when I'm the one eating the food.

you really think it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about myself because some idiot on a message board knows gmrkr5 has a bge? When you see me rolling around town with a bge sticker on the back of my truck then your arguement is valid.

I would not want to confront a person that was capable of stealing a BGE. Would have to be strong as an ox and bad arse. Much easier to steal one of those rocky mountain oyster thingys.

eta: no self respekin thug would steal an overpriced status symbol like the BGE.

Well, it was delivered here by only 2 people, so I assume 2 people could haul it to a truck and get away with it in the dark of night. They've stolen my expensive trash cans. Some guy took the time to stop his car at about 11 pm, take every single bag out of my gynormus can, stack them neatly on the ground and load the can (one of big old thick rolling plastic jobs) into his trunk and drive off with the trunk door up banging down the street. I heard it, but by the time I got to the window, he was moving pretty quickly. All of the outdoor and indoor lights were on, too. These people have no fear.
