when I was a teenager, I'd see this guy at the Martin's uptown tasting all morning. He'd leave after we had lunch with a huge smile, albeit a blacktooth stained smile.

When I was 18, I started going in and looking at which one's labels I liked, and which ones I though might be good. During college, I started trying different grapes out with my gf at the time. I think of it as my addiction with golf: it'll never get better, but it ain't that bad.

I started drinking red wine at various weddings when they ran out of everything else and in duck blinds when the blue hairs pullled it out with the cheese and crackers. Still don't know the ends and outs of wine drinking. But my wife does. She appreciates the shite out of it.

my red wine appreciation and frequency of drinking comes in spurts. My first real step in my appreciation was working in nicer restaurants/bars while in undergrad. Me and my last gf both made an honest effort to try and expand our palate and knowledge of reds. We went a good 6 months averaging trying a new red at least once a week.

It's either cool, nerdy, or ghey, but I noticed how out palate evolved on the same plane. We would catch the same notes in taste. Was pretty neat. :/ (eta:this was me at 29)

Drank it early, enjoyed it always, undestood the difference young, refined the experience later in life.

Ima say 30 for good measure.

Reds? Mid 20s. Whites? As far back as I can recall as that's what was served at family get togethers where food was involved. Glass of water on one side and glass of wine on the other.

First love is Rhone varietals. Favorite of those would be CDP, which I have unhealthy obsession with. Rhone is probably 45% of my stock

Drink a lot of burgundy and too much rose in the summer. Italian I like to have around the house. Dont drink much California red as I find the affordable ones to be all too similar and the cheap ones all too boring. The expensive California reds are great but a little too much sizzle perhaps. Really liking Oregon and Washington Pinots.

Of course, brash Malbecs with steak is a guilty pleasure. Every now and then a Spanish red with a cheese and charcuterie plate from St. James.

I wish I could afford to drink Bordeaux, but every now and then I come across a good soul with something really special.

I seem to have memories of sitting in the gutter or perhaps on the curb behind the NCO barracks after duty enjoying a flirty bottle of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill with my Buds after retreat had sounded and before Hit the Rack time.

Had to be about a hundred years ago. Excuse my lack of knowledge. Do they still make Boone's Farm? My memory is that in those days there was no such thing as MadDog 20/20 and those square bottle adventures came later. Maybe I'm wrong. Forget I said that

I turned 35 last month and still have no desire to drink red wine one bit. I don't drink anything hot, not even coffee.
