At what age did you start drinking/appreciating red wine?

I started drinking it in my 20s. As far as appreciating it, I always have, but I'm still far from an expert.

I appreciated the convenience of a box along with its ability to fit in my dorm fridge at 18.

Around 12. French family, no shame. Always allowed a glass or two at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

This. The children even had their own bottle of sweet wine (Mateus if I remember correctly-yep just checked. Loved that label.) that was kept for dinner and family gatherings and meals.

My wife's grandfather was one of the vp's of Christian Brothers back in the day. He died at 92 but I was able to spend some time and learn how to properly taste wines before he died. He was born in Italy where his father had a large vineyard. Very interesting guy.

Well, I'm 43. So it will have to be 44 or later before i start appreciating red wine.

35ish. Didn't drink decent wine until Mrs O got the bright idea she could break me off beer by putting us both on Sugar Busters and telling me wine, which she knew I didn't drink , was allowed...didn't work out the way she planned.

He was a very devout Catholic and did not like the idea of his granddaughter dating (and later marrying) a Protestant. I finally got his blessing before he died.

Nice. My grandmother was so cool. Grew up eating brains and eggs, crepes for breakfast, and she always had ramekins of chocolate mousse and creme caramel in her fridge. Not the average mawmaw. It didn't hurt that she was a Cordon Bleu certified cook.
