actually inside restaurants in Nola right now? Will I have to wear one and pull it down for every bite I take?

I think once you are at your seat you can take it off.
I don’t know for sure if it’s even a city rule or not. We ate outside at a little place this weekend and nobody had on mask.
Also ate at the Bulldog a few weeks ago and nobody inside or outside had a mask on

No. You have to enter and leave with one on. At the table you are fine.

Most places are requiring you to have one on when you walk in and walk to your table.
Once you are sitting down you do not need one. If you get up to go to the restroom or to exit, you put it back on.
Restaurants are enforcing it variably. Some ask consistently and politely and keep with it like Peche...others are clearly more loose.
I would just do it to be respectful.

Was at a neighborhood place the other night eating while sitting at the bar and talking to the bartender, no mask on.
A guy walked up next to me to order, they asked him to put his mask on when ordering.

None of this makes any logical sense. Somehow the virus will wait for you to enter and then stay in abeyance while you eat sans mask
