But as a small business owner I want more than the food. I get real pleasure knowing that the family that owns the place it right behind the counter, they put their money and lives on the line because they think they can prepare good food. By eating their products I can be part of that with them, and I know in the same way how much I appreciate everyone who did business with me.
This is why I try to eat at local establishments as much as possible.

Let's be clear about a few things here Mike.
There is a reason people are piling on you. Granted, myself, Powerman, and SFP are a bit more vocal in our retorts, but perhaps you dont see the way your words are perceived. We're not just making this up out of thin air, there is a clear and distinct tone in virtually every post you make, and it's not welcome. Additionally, there is also a very clear distinction between "sharing an opinion" and "preaching" - they are very much NOT the same thing.
sharing an opinion: "I think raspberries make an excellent topping for dessert"
preaching: "you should put raspberries on top of all your desserts"
Whether you see it or not, you fall firmly into the latter. It's condescending, pretentious and insulting. And, you do it every single time. And then when you are called out on it, you tend to retract and reword...but your words are clear as day, you are very clearly implying that your way is the right way, the other way is the wrong way, and everyone should follow your way. You bring that distasteful political fervor to the F&D that should remain over on the Poli Board where it belongs.
I have ZERO problem with buying local and/or being sustainable. The company I work for, "sustainability" is our entire concept, it drives virtually every decision we make in regards to product development. Yet, I dont ever, not once, try to make anyone feel like shite because they may buy elsewhere....nor do I take on an air of superiority over my friends, family or neighbors if they choose another option. Once again, whether you realize it or not, you do, and you do it often.
I will continue to call you out on it every last time. You are not better than anyone else, your ideas are not superior or more moral.
However, I still think your ideas and notions are completely ridiculous. I'm not sure why you cant objectively see the fact that very few, if anybody equates food to society as you do. And, I'm fairly certain you never will. You simply stand with a very very very small group of people that equate food preparation with some sort of social barometer. In fact, in all my years and all my restaurants, I have never encountered anyone that thinks as you do. Outside of perhaps your small circle of friends, you'll be hard pressed to find ANYONE that agrees with you, to such a religious extent.
you do lay it out:
In the end, there is no "Mafia" I have no idea who Powerman, or SFP are on or off-board. You just continually post things that are preposterous.....but worse, condescending to everyone else. Get off your high horse, let people choose to eat wherever they want without you telling them they're bad people for it.
......did you really quote Eminem??

quote:Which is where most everyone in this and other threads will tell you that where you decide to eat is only one of a thousand various factors that define a community. Something tells me, in your mind, where you eat is close to 90% of a defining factor, I'd say it's more like 5%.
basically lay out my ideals behind how we form our own community by where we decide to eat

Sysco has become the most massive food service provider in the US that it is actually a wonder they are not up for review by the Justice Dept or Congress under anti-monopoly laws. The size of it reminds at least me to the line from the Sandra Bullock/Sly Stallone movie about Taco Bell being the only restautant as he looks at a plate that is more plate than food.

This was the most bizarre thread I've seen on this board.
I've searched through it and still don't get the point.

I saw this type of thread coming as soon as it was posted.
That may have been one of the finest things I have ever seen you post.
Ya know one of the finer things in life just might be the premade boudin balls at the local chain gas station.

Artificially flavored raspberry topping?
"That's a lot to ask, but I'll try."

I like em both.. Just don't show me a picture of Donald Trump's kid sitting next to a dead cow and tell me "THAT'S hunting".
