Anyone else get roped into a NYE giant table dinner at a restaurant?

Luckily the group has shrunk back down to 12, but it was 18 earlier this week. I was dreading dinner with that many people, 12 is still rough. Reservations at 7:00, probably walk out at what 10:00-10:30?
With groups this big I like to have one person order apps for the table and then just do a dinner entre for each person. Alas, tonight will likely be drawn out courses.
Anyone else get the same treatment with NYE plans?

Screw that.
We are having 3 couples over.
Projector and screen set up to watch the ball drop
loaded fire pit
Pork on smoker
2 cases of beer and some champagne.

NEVER.
I really dislike group dinners that big, but hell no on NYE.

Damn, that sounds like trouble.
Where are you having dinner?

The Sycamore House, in BSL. The food, and drinks, will on point, the rest of it...?

I think I'd rather have a cavity filled.

Pretty much sums up how I feel about any party larger than six in a restaurant. Don't you giant restaurant group dining people have homes? Even tiny apartments are more fun for a group than a restaurant setting. Learn to cook a few simple things decently, it's cheaper by far to entertain at home. And the rest of the dining public won't have to listen to your loud asses trying to tell stories down the whole table....

That guy's on point for a lot of it. I hate group dinners and usually try and find an excuse to get out of them. The only ones I like are where it's prix fixe or something already set up in advance. Oh yeah, and I can stand cheap mexican restaurant group dinners. Those servers are always good at keeping track of what every individual had so I don't get stuck paying for Carrol's two large mango top shelf margaritas when I just had one beer.

Mexican restaurants are the exception to the rule here.

Pretty similar for us. HDTV with bowl games, fire pit, beer, smores, whiskey, hotdogs, ect. No more than a dozen people. Should be a good, laid back night.

I'm in the same boat. This is what happens when you let your wife's friends plan shite.

I agree. Six is the limit. Beyond that you're entering clusterfrick territory. Shitty for the restaurant, its servers and the kitchen, shitty time for the diners. I do everything I can to avoid the situation. Thankfully, it hasn't come up too often.
