I did before I got a smoker, it's pretty good if it's your only option. It's very moist and tender and shreads easily.

My wife does a mean pulled pork in the crock pot. Usually will brown it first in a skillet. She then throws it in to cook, and then comes back with some BBQ sauce and Dales. Turn it to low and let it sit until ready to eat.

If you're not looking for smoke or bark, it's fine.

Pork shoulder or Boston butt?
And yes. It's great. Just never add any liquid.

This is how I do it and it turns out great.

It's a hell of a lot better if you can smoke it for a few hours before you throw it in there. Adds flavor and renders fat. A butt straight in a crockpot requires a shite load of de-greasing.

This. Pork shoulder goes on sale all the time and when it does we always slow cook it in the crock pot. We make a rub and bbq sauce, add in some apples and let it sit for 8 hours. As others have said it's tender and extremely easy to pull.
We can eat off that for 3-4 days. Sandwiches, Mac-N-Cheese, Tacos, Nachos, etc

Difference between pork shoulder and boston butt

All the time in the fall/winter. Then shred and fry it for awesome carnitas.

You're only going to find butts and picnics. Butts are called shoulder all the time.

The first, and probably most common, is Boston butt. Boston butt comes from high on the hog, above the shoulder blade, and has lots of juicy, marbled fat. This is probably what most people buy when they purchase pork shoulder in a grocery store. It's a versatile piece of meat that you can just as easily roast or braise. For home cooks, it's also very inexpensive.

Crock pot jack miller pulled pork on a roll with slaw makes for some easy and delicious sliders.

I like picnics better than butts for pulled pork. Not as fatty, and would definitely be better in a crock pot since all the fat stays in the pot.
But you do have to cut the skin off. Not that hard and you can cut holes in it for a hanibal lector mask.
Use a cap full of liquid smoke. It gets knocked on here by people that smoke meat, but it does really add a decent smokey flavor if you can't get the real thing.

When we lived in an apartment we did it, and it was decent enough in a pinch. Go light on the liquid smoke though, it can get a "medicinal/chemical" quality pretty quick

I watched a alton brown show on how to make liquid smoke at home. I had no idea that they actually have real smoke filter through water that absorbs the flavor. Pretty interesting actually.
