Any "Don't miss" vineyards/wineries or distilleries in WNC?

The wine/whiskey doesn't have to be spectacular if the scenery is really nice. Anywhere from border with TN to not too far east of Asheville. Thanks.

Only winery I've been to was at the Biltmore Estates, and it was wholly forgettable as far as the wines. It's certainly pretty, but I think you have to pay the admission to the Biltmore to get in there.
Brewing scene is much bigger in that area (see thread on this page already). Do you not like beer?

I love beer and have been to Asheville for the last 4 years around this time. I've been in probably all of the breweries/taprooms in the downtown area. Not a fan of sours though. Was just looking for other stuff.

Biltmore Estates sources all of their grapes from California now, which is why it's pretty good these days. They originally tried growing all the grapes onsite but have since abandoned that idea.
If you're going to be up in the Banner Elk area the Banner Elk Winery is worth a visit for sure.

I went years ago, when I think they were still trying to use grapes grown on site.
OP should also look to some of the cideries around there as well. I haven't hit any up on site, but I've had a few here and there from the area.

There are no wineries in NC worth visiting unless its for the view or you are into sweet wines.

Nothing that I know of.
Go for a hike in the mountains or hang out at looking glass falls or something. Tryon equestrian center might have some events going on.

Raffaldini - Ronda, NC - Good wine and nice views. The tasting room is in a very cool building.
Piccioni - Ronda, NC - Good wine and nice views. Very close to Raffaldini. Tasting room is small, but, I think they are in planning stages of building a new one.
Roaring River - Nice views, but, not a large selection of wine or beer. The back deck sits right on a river. They also have a few very nice lodges for rent.
