Eagle rare is Buffalo Trace aged 10 years and well worth the extra dollars.

Is that the difference? Thought I read that they are the same recipe. Aged 10 years is worth 5-6 bucks, I agree. ]

Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are close siblings, separated only by a few years. In addition to sharing the same mash bill, Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are also both 90 proof. Buffalo Trace is not age stated, but many estimate it to be between 7-9 years. Eagle Rare is 10 years old.

For similar price point, I would consider Eagle Rare or Maker's Mark

Buy it and try it. Who cares what other's perception is? If you enjoy it that is all that matters. That being said, I think it is pretty solid.

I like the sweetness of Bulleit. Is Buffalo Trace similar? What other bourbons should I try if I like Bulleit?

Another, even cheaper, option from them is W.L. Weller. Also great for the price.
Weller is basically Pappy that hasn't aged, there's a 12 year that's become just as impossible to get in Kentucky and retail is only like $40.

Basil Hayden. Both are higher in rye.

If it's the sweetness you like, my money always goes to Four Roses Single. ABC liquors usually has it around $39 a bottle. Worth every penny.

They (includes legislators that ultimately run them) strangle the state's competition, limit choices, and make everything more expensive.

Seems to be a good thing in Auburn. Every other store sells Four Roses Single for 45+. I've even seen it for 49.99. They both also have huge selections.

This is true, however the newer releases of Eagle have lost the 10yr age statement.

One of my favorites. Can't go wrong with it as a daily drinker.
I'm really not sure Eagle Rare is different enough to justify the higher price tag. Has never distinguished itself enough from a taste standpoint from its little brother. Just my IMO. I know it's aged longer but I don't seem to ever notice any more complexity.
Four Roses small batch and McKenna's single barrel two other good options in that price tier. And if you want to spend a little extra $, the Four Roses Single Barrel is well worth it.
