Alternatives to the Big Green Egg

Posted on the OB board before realizing there was a much better source
Looking for a more reasonable Kamodo grill to get. In-laws have he big Green Egg which we love, but the price is a little beyond what we are looking for. Curious if anyone has experience with something a little cheaper but gets similar results.
Thanks for the input.

I have the vision from Home Depot
works just fine and I think it was about 1/2 the price

Sam's Club has one that is similar and half the cost.

Saw a BGE posted on FB yesterday for $400, that's a steal. It's in Cajun swap shop.
Looks as if it's still available.......

I've got a Chargriller Akorn. Was about $250 from Home Depot, steel body instead of ceramic. Does everything I want it to do but will probably fall apart after 5 years

Costco has one for $499.00 RIGHT now. I believe it's a Camp Chef(could be wrong though). Big too! I'd get it if I was looking for a cheaper ceramic.

I'm really leaning towards the pit boss. I believe it's 599 for ~22". Seem to be decent build quality for the price. Top vent seemed to be pretty well made compared to other cheaper versions.

I have the pit boss one from Costco
Very happy with it so far
I'm not sure what makes a BGE worth double what this one costs, not to mention it comes with all you need.
There's plenty of cooking area and it's versatile

I have a Komodo Joe, my buddy has a BGE, we both agree the differences in performance are non-existant. The KJ is $200-$300 cheaper, depending on where you buy.

I'm i the market too, and I see some downvotes on pretty much every post that offers experuence with another brand. I know BGE and KJ are good and on the same level. If like to know what's so bad about others. I see some cheaper construction on vents, but other than that, not a ton. I may end up with a BGE or KJ, but 600 bucks is a lot of money. I could buy two pit boss kamados for that difference. Will they really last more than twice as long?

People that buy the overpriced name brand items will downvote anyone who got a good deal on an item that is basically equal to theirs yet half the price.
They downvote but won't reply because they have nothing of substance to say.

I have a primo XL - it's a ceramic grill just like BGE but oval in shape and American made. It's awesome.
Still pricey but worth it. Noticeable difference from a gas grill. I did two ribeyes last night. Got the pit up to 600 degrees. Put my cast iron skillet on the grill. Five minutes each side then finished 90 seconds each side in the cast iron. Just slightly more than rare and crispy on the outside.

I have an Akorn, going on 3 years. Still in great shape and does what I want. I I get 5 years out of it, I would be pleased. Hell, I could be one every 5 years 4 times for the price if a BGE.

Many temp gauges are able to be adjusted. Check brand and website.

I have an Akorn, as well. It gets hot fast! I've had great success with it. It's very easy to use and clean.
FYI- just search for "Kamado Grill," and you'll see all the BGE alternatives.
