Wonder if they'll be close to Tipitina's or closer to the D-Day museum or casino?

ABITA SPRINGS, La. — Louisiana’s largest local brewery is opening up a second operation in New Orleans.

Abita Brewing Company announced Tuesday that they plan to open a second brewery location on Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans.

Abita New Orleans plans to open in early 2025.

What sets Abita Brewing beer apart from others is that it is brewed using Abita Springs natural spring water, which Vice President of Marketing at Abita Heidi Guerra said will still be used for brewing at the New Orleans location.

“Adding a Brewery location in New Orleans just makes sense. We want people to have the opportunity to taste our beers where it’s most convenient for them and for a lot of Louisianians and visitors, that’s in the heart of New Orleans.”

Like their northshore location, beer enthusiasts will have the opportunity to learn about the brewery’s history and brewing techniques while exploring signature brews.

ETA: from Abita's FB page

Abita New Orleans. Coming early 2025.
The opening of our secondary location reflects our continued investment in the New Orleans community. We’ve always been a proud supporter of New Orleans vibrant culture through food, music, festivals and community engagement and this new brewery will allow us to further enhance those collaborations with the local community from both sides of the lake. In addition to the brewhouse and tasting room, the facility will be able to host events and community gatherings to support local projects. This initiative, on the heels of the partnership with the New Orleans Saints as their Official Craft Beer, is another example of how we are staying Louisiana True.

The new location will be at Tchoupitoulas Street and 1st Street, the company's account said on X.

Article mentioned first and Tchoupitoulas, one block from Tchoup Yard, about halfway between NOLA/Miel and Urban South. Not a very scenic walk, but easily walkable between those 4, and very easy bike ride as long as you stay off Tchoupitoulas.

Must be that old crossfit building. They had a furniture pop up in there a couple of weekends ago, and I noted two people performing what looked to be some sort of cursory site surveying of the lot then.

Seems on its face to be a smart move on their part, but I recognize the brewery industry has been in a bit of upheaval lately.

The timing is odd. Several brewery closures across the country since 2021.

I hope they do well but interesting part on their timing.

To paraphrase yogi berra, Abita has gotten so big no one drinks it anymore

This is why I think it could make sense.

For better or worse, it's sort of seen as a "tourist beer." This allows them to capitalize more on that, and may in turn allow them to possibly do some other interesting things in this little offshoot that might have the local market take notice, with other local beers sort of struggling and getting a bit tired/boring (Urban South and NOLA, I'm looking at you).

They've been around long enough and have deep enough pockets to take the risk.

most of those were good ones who couldn't keep up OR jumped the shark with their offerings..

Abita is too big to fail at making a mediocre product that has tremendous reach

When is the last time any of you can even remember drinking an abita product?

I'll order an Amber occasionally at a fried seafood joint or neighborhood type place that doesn't have many other options.

Plus, a lot of New Orleans functions still think the only possible "craft" beer anyone might want is Amber or Heineken, so I will often default to it at those as well.

I can almost guarantee you this be a "brewery", but also a restaurant or pop-up space, with an area for large private parties and live music, and hopefully a great outdoor space.

I used to visit local breweries once a week just to try different beers. Now I still hit up a brewery or two each month, but its always for things unrelated to beer like a festival or market, a birthday party (kids included), or live music.

The only time I have it now that I can recall is French Quarter Fest.

I had an amber for the first time in years and absolutely hated it. The ipa is pretty good.
