Have you ever had tomato gravy? Biscuits + tomato gravy is where it's at
She loved granddad so much that for 64 years she got up at daybreak or earlier and made buttermilk biscuits from scratch. The only time she didn’t was if she was too sick. He liked buttered with honey once pure ribbon cane syrup got expensive and hard to find.
When we would visit she would make an extra pan of biscuits and then a cream gravy that she would add a pint of home canned stewed tomatoes about 5 minutes before serving. We’d eat every last drop and usually every biscuit.
BTW, the Milk and butter were fresh from their cows, a jersey and a guernsey. The tomato from the garden.
For dessert evening meal we’d have fresh hot buttered biscuits with grandma’s homemade strawberry preserves.

have none of you ever gotten red-eye gravy at loveless cafe?
Red eye gravy may have coffee in it, but it's not really comparable to dipping a biscuit in coffee IMO. I've never had it at the Loveless or any cafe, only homemade

I drink black coffee every morning and the taste profile of the two do not give me an inclination that you can marry the two.

Seriously. Loveless Cafe's red eye must really suck if you think it's the same as dipping it in coffee. It's also supposed to be country ham grease not bacon grease

As someone who loves his black coffee and also biscuits, this sounds awful.
On that note I will definitely try this Saturday morning and report back.
