In the very near future I am going to conduct the Donut Challenge. There are two categories, Best Glazed and Best Filled. Basically one morning I am going to wake up very early in the morning and trek around Baton Rouge to as many donut places as I possibly can, buying one glazed and one filled at every place I go to. I plan on hitting the usual suspects such as KK, Meche's, Mikey's, Mr.Ronnies, and several Mary Lee locations but if there's any specific bakery or donut you'd like to nominate feel free to do so.

Don't do it all in one day To remain objective. You will be too stuffed to enjoy the last few donuts. Also they might be stale by that point

I nominate one:the sour cream cake donut at the Mary Lee on Perkins (not actual sour cream)

Yeah but he doesn't get the butter at Ruth's Chris so it balances out. It's like you people don't even understand eating clean.

I did the Boudin challenge in the Lafayette area with my family. Best Stop won followed by Don's. We talked about the Donut challenge because I'm not a fan of Meche's oversized greasy bready donuts and yet they seem to be everyone's favorite. I prefer a smaller lighter donut myself.

At my old office in Lafayette there was a large group of Meche's homers that I had to challenge. Got a couple dozen Meche's, and a couple dozen from Shipley in Bunkie (the only Shipley I care for). I took them and had to actually cut them in quarters because Meche's dwarfs Shipleys size.

It was something like 17/19 picked Shipley.

Bunkie Shipley is the GOAT glazed donut.

ETA: RIP Mr Clarence, the old man who perfected the glazed donut in Bunkie. Passed away a month or so back.

I agree with the earlier poster that said you need to do them individually.

Once again, I nominate the blueberry cake donut at Ed's Donuts on Essen (near Sushi Masa). Glazed are good too.

Best Stop
Don's
Billy's
Nu Nu's
Billeaud
Hebert's

There might have been 1 or 2 more. We had forgotten about Poche's which I know has good boudin as well.

There's a new donut shop on Coursey that's pretty great. Coffee and Dough. Get the messy blueberry donut. Or one of the chocolate candy bar donuts, if you're into that kind of thing.
