Obviously this is shitty meat but how bad is it? I’m assuming it’s super thin cut as well. Would it be worth to just buy some for stir fry and steak & eggs in the morning? Tempted to stop by one later just to give it a look assuming there isn’t some larger scam I’m missing

You get what you pay for. If you’re not looking for high quality steak, then go for it. Nothing wrong with it as long as you aren’t thinking it’s prime beef.

I bought one of those deals from a truck in Montgomery about 5 years ago. It wasn’t bad for stuff like steak and eggs, stir fry, etc. In my opinion it’s better to wait for someone like Fresh Market to put a special on like a $6.99 pound if you buy the whole New York Strip. They cut them to your specifications and I take them home and vacuum seal individually for future use. Fresh Market also will run specials on whole tenderloins that I do the same way but those are usually $9.99 lb. Heck these days not many beef specials are being run. Nor chicken. Nor pork. You catch my drift. These so called specials are still expensive.

It's probably as good as those Dollar Tree steaks

I wouldn’t be opposed to making some Philly cheesesteaks with them

That's the right answer.
But, meat trucks? I have not seen that here.

They’ve been cruising the Jackson metro recently

My brother bought some one time for some reason. We seasoned and cast iron’d them for like 2 minutes and they were pretty good as a steak sandwich.

Wasn’t there something like this set up at the MOL over a year ago?

Fell for this last month. I know the owners personally and wanted to give them a try.
DO NOT. The meat is so bad it will make you turn vegan.

I had a guy give me a box one time... I do not believe they are actually steak, not even sure if it was beef.

I’m not about to buy that crap. Don’t even want to deal with people like the ones selling this

Buying meat from a roadside truck run by sketchy strangers that you plan to ingest to save a few bucks?
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

I saw it too. How can this be beef? Less than $2 per steak? You can't buy a half lb of 73/27 ground meat for that. What's in the box?

2-3 months ago on the NY strips. Butcher said it was a loss leader and absolutely no profit was made off the purchase. Their reasoning is to get you to buy other items. They use to run specials like that a bunch but not as much anymore. They had tenderloin and ribeye or prime rib dirt cheap around Christmas. Wished I would have stocked up because two filets today were very expensive.
