Vintage is eliminating its entire workforce of 377 positions and will shut down the following wineries: BR Cohn Winery, Clos Pegase, Girard, Kunde Family Winery, Viansa Winery, Sonoma Coast Winery, Laetitia Vineyard & Winery, Ace Cider, Vintage.

Vintage would “cease operations and all Vintage Wine Estates employees, at all locations, would be terminated.”

I know beer sales have plummeted and breweries have been shutting down but I didn’t know that was the case with wine and wineries.

Maybe people have really cut back on all types of alcohol consumption?

BR Cohn and Kunde I thought were fairly popular. Wow.

Kunde, Cohn, and Viansa were extremely well regarded wineries.

My guess is that this is a product of Bidenomics coupled with California's insane tax system.

Crap economy - which would have people cutting back on "luxuries"

+

High interest rates (needed to finance purchase of vineyards)

+

California's confiscatory business taxes

But, yeah, I'm just talking out of my arse.

I'd imagine someone will pick up a nice bargain buying some of the assets in bankruptcy.

If you follow the wine industry, wine in general is “worried”.

Millenials aren’t drinking it as much and are drinking cocktails more

And gen z isn’t drinking wine at all.

Is this just a juice packager or do they actually grow?

Edit: Hard to know. their website lists several growing locations, but those are owned by larger companies. It appears that Vintage may just be a marketer.

Or those markets have become entirely oversaturated with brands and the inevitable is happening...

BR Cohn produced some very good wines. But the wine and beer business is declining. The hard liquor category is growing but not enough to offset the losses from the other two. One reason we are seeing more and more celebrities backing liquor companies.
