Why is the new's media really down playing this flood potential in South EBR? I get it that no one knows for sure, but come on. Give us the facts, so we can prepare. Who's at risk in South EBR?

This shite is so much more complicated to understand than a hurricane.

No one knows yet. The crest is still almost two weeks away.

Potentially everyone. The levees along the river haven't had a test like this in 38 years. Local levee boards are really the wild card in this entire situation.

Those sand bags by Farr Park are due to the Corps worrying about the condition of the toe of the levee. The toe of the levee in that area and in other areas near Duncan Point do not have the required cover to provide the typical factors of safety that the Corps requires. They have raised River Road at points along Duncan Point in the past to increase the factor of safety at key locations.

Whiteville might be a little closer to the big ole river once all is said and done, but I did see 60.5 ft at the Old River Structure today. I send em too you and up load tomorrow for everyone on the board. Prob. be irrelevant by then though. Sh!ttload of water up there. Never seen water that high at Blackhawk.

There is always some risk. Remember its 230 miles from the I-10 Bridge in BTR to the Mouth of the river at SW Pass. Thats many miles of levee. You will have seepage, we've had it before. How much good can be done by water diverting? As for the river, how high and how long it stays up are the two things they keep an eye on. Best of luck to all.

the reason some areas of west feliciana parish near st francisville floods is there is NO levee on that side, just river bank with concrete mats and rip rap. The natural bluff (like wht natchez sits on) runs thru the parish, but in some cases it is several miles from the bank of the river, so all of that bottomland floods, the water will not exceed the natural bluff. There are also 2 major creeks that drain into the river in w feliciana parish, and they back up and jump their banks and flood any land below the natural bluff

Don't know if y'all have seen these pics yet, but these are pics of the river at LSU. I had no idea it was this high already! I hope these angles are deceiving because we're going to have problems if the crest isn't until a week or so from now!!!

Apparently, Morganza is going to save the day.

Seems like a lot of faith is being placed in something that has only been used once in it's lifetime.

That's what worries me about the levees south of LSU. Heard on WAFB that the levees in the south part of the parish are lower.
