according to the FEMA conference call this afternoon:
the trigger point for Morganza is when Red River Landing hits 1.25kfps.
everything else was pretty much news we already know.

from those pictures by the vet school I dont see how the river would not top the levee by May 22nd

River width, depth and contour have nothing to do with the different flows. There are areas along the river between Red River Landing and Natchez where water goes into storage. Basically the water leaves the channel and enters an area with little to no downstream flow. This causes the downstream flow to decrease. There is also an area between RRL and Baton Rouge that puts 50kcfs to 100kcfs into storage. So the flow at BR will be slightly less than at RRL.
ScottieP posted this awhile back and it got me thinking. Right now Arkansas City is supposed to crest at 3200 kcfs on 5/15. On 5/19 its supposed to crest in the neighborhood of 2400 kcfs in Vicksburg. That's a difference of nearly 800 kcfs (on average), for almost a week. That's a hell of a lot of storage. The project flood called for only 180 kcfs difference between the two points. To give an idea of the volume of storage, it'd be in the neighborhood of about 2.5 times the size of Lake Pontchartrain. Maybe I'm missing something, but I feel like something's not accounted for there. I'm hoping someone with more info on the Corps' modeling/ knowledge of the river can give some detail here. I arrived at the number by subtracting the flows on the same days, to arrive at a difference, then converted to cubic feet vs. the average volume of Lake Pontchartrain. I forgot how good excel is with hydrology

Shouldn't laugh, but that guy really wanted to save those hunting trophies/

You sure about that unit?

sorry to ask if it s been posted but i have been keeping up and didnt see anything.
Earlier people were talking about St francisville getting a bunch of flood water, which conflicted with some other thoughts. Does anyone know what the projection / reason for flooding would be. Someone mentioned backed up tributaries

so the river is predicted to get approximately 7' higher in the next 13 days...does that look like less than 7' to anyone else?
eta: 7' between top of the levee and the river
Pictures for some reason are deceptive. Don't get me wrong, the water is high. But the camera doesn't really show how much space is between the top and the water. It's more than 7'. I've been taking pictures there since last Monday. Crazy how fast this thing is coming up

There are some great pictures taken from a helicopter or plane at the NatchezDemocrat.com showing deer running through the flood waters I assume looking for higher ground

Does anyone know the the approximate level of the levees around Lexington Estates and UC Club in EBR? Should these neighborhoods be concerned?

It blew through that Friday. LINK
Yeah..... FLOW is in cfs. The unit he listed was fps. I don't think the water is moving at a velocity of 1,250 feet per second.

Yeah, today I went to look at the river. I took my shoes off and stood in the very edge of the water. I'm a little less than 6 ft, and the top of the levee was way above my head. I would say at least 9 ft. left to give.

Corps: LSU and other areas South of Baton Rouge at risk if Morganza spillway remains closed.

Update of the pic I took across from Farr Park/Beau Pre Townhomes
May 4th:
May 9th:
There was a noticeable difference. You can see they moved the office trailer and there is a crane behind the trees at the barges moving something around.
Saw some old guy fishing with his family. He said they did alot better yesterday, only got one goo today.
There were also sandbags on the backside of the levee right across from Farr Park. Not sure what for exactly. I guess the levee is letting some water through? Anybody know whats going on?
I used to live near here and within the last year they did what looked like utility work. Maybe they didn't build it back up to specs?

Can an admin put some actual relevant info in the first post without having to click a million links?
I think a good start would be a BR/NO crest date and height along with what the city can safely hold without flooding.
Ie. Baton Rouge may 22nd crest 47.5 feet levee of 52.5 feet. Etc
