The member known to you as Ashman was my father and he has passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 46. I type this with tears in my eyes, but I am sure he would have wanted you all to know. He loved the Fark board, and he would always share his work with me, as well as some of his favorites submitted by others here. He got into photo-shopping because of the creativity and humor in it. I suspect it also took his mind off of the pain I am sure he was enduring, although he would never complain. I offer my sincerest thanks to all who engaged with or shared a post or a laugh with my dad. If you don’t mind, I would like to share a few words about him.
He raised my brother and I by himself since I was eight and my brother was three (we are now 26 and 21). He had no help from our mother who is not in our lives, but he more than made up for that fact. We never wanted for anything, and he was always there for us no matter what. He was a kind and caring man with a generous spirit. He owned his own business until he sold it and retired a couple of years ago. Over the years, he provided jobs for thousands of people. It brought him great joy knowing he was helping others to support their family or improve their station in life.
My dad loved The University of Alabama and Crimson Tide football. He got his degree from there, and was on the scout team. He always joked that he was the “Rudy” of the south.
We traveled a lot. My brother and I are fortunate to have been in all fifty states and seven countries. One year when I was in high school, we packed up the day the school year ended and didn’t return home for the entire summer. We traveled all across the country and got back just in time for the new school year to begin. We have a lifetime of memories just from that trip.
I know my dad would wish health and happiness to all of you and your families. He would want you to enjoy each day of your life, and maybe have a thick steak and a cold beer for him. To those of you reading this, thank you so much for indulging me. It helps me to talk about him. Every good thing I am is because of him. He was a blessing to many, but none more so than my brother and I. We are really going to miss him.
God bless you all.
Signing off for Ashman.

Between this and the pancreatic cancer thread on the OT this has not been a great day
. I don't normally post on this board, but he had some great farks. May he rest in peace

This is simply tragic. I wasn't prepared to read something like this at all. Prayers to you, your brother, and others hit the hardest by this news.
Your father came here and immediately fit right in and was liked by all. He cranked out a lot of fantastic work and pushed the rest of us to step up our farking game. I loved the laughter and enjoyment that his work brought. He had a great attitude with his own work as well as toward the work of everyone else here. It was clear that he was a huge Bama fan but yet he still had the lightheartedness and sense of humor to make fun of his own team when the opportunity came.
Thank you for sharing more about him with us. I/we shall truly miss him and the joy he brought to us here through his farks.

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family and his friends.
He was a patient gentleman and wonderfully creative spirit.
I had no idea he was suffering and I'm sure that's how he wanted it to be for us here.
May you all find as much peace as possible in this time of your sorrow, he will be terribly missed here.
My thoughts will be with you all and him every time I check the Fark Board and he's not here.

So sad, yet so inspirational that you would stop by and share such heartfelt words. Who here probably doesn't have a tear in their eyes after reading this?
We rarely get to know "the man behind the fark". Thank you for sharing this. I hope one of my kids would do something like this as I'm sure that's how we'd all ultimately want to be remembered.
May God's grace and love be with you in your time of sorrow and loss.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dad last month after a long battle with Parkinson's. Ashman was a humorous and entertaining soul, but it sounds like he was an even better father. Prayers to you and your family.
God Bless and hang in there.

Sorry to here that. I too lost my father to a battle with cancer when I was in 5th grade. You and your family are in our prayers, and I am glad for the short time that I got to laugh at his talent and creativeness. Ashman will surely be missed. Hopefully you can play with Photoshop and pick up his torch and keep the legend going. Again, sorry for your loss and he will not be forgotten.

I wasn't familiar with your dad on TD, but it sounds like he was a fantastic father and person in general. I'm very sorry for your loss.
