Old man missing the good old days of fantasy football

Has anyone else been involved with fantasy football long enough to miss the days before the internet dominated the game?
A few things I miss about those days:
1. I miss the days when preparation actually mattered. Now, as long as someone knows how to use the internet, he can have a hundred expert opinions at his side in a matter of minutes. I miss the days of fantasy football when you had to make your own projections and know a little about the game. I used to love to see guys walk in and open their crisp new fantasy football magazine not realizing how much had changed since the publication date.
2. I miss live drafts with a bunch of guys sitting around drinking beer and harassing each other for each and every pick. "Didn't you hear Barry Sanders broke his leg and is out for the year"?
3. I miss watching games and highlights to see how my players did, but never really knowing if you won until the commissioner (usually me) scoured through the USA Today on Monday and Tuesday mornings, compiling the points by hand.
Anyone else miss this? Anything else you miss about old-school Fantasy Football?

I definitely miss getting together and putting the stickers up on the draft board and laughing at people who go through the sheets 3 or 4 times looking for someone that's already been picked.

I remember the first time we "automated" our draft. We hooked a laptop up to a projector and took turns walking up and typing our selection in.

I fully get #1.
#2 still is a real thing that all leagues should try do.
3 sounds fkn terrible though.

Nah, I don’t miss it. I think my first FF league was around 93 or so.
Used to play CDM roto too, got faxed reports. No thanks lol.

I miss the live drafts at someone’s house but I love the ability to track my team and others scoring live.
Sometimes so called experts are just that so called. I listen to them some but I usually do my own research especially on rookies. I don’t really trust experts but I do like I can get instant injury news and adjust roster accordingly

We still do live drafts at one of the local pubs in Houston and still have 4 of the original owners playing since our inception in 1995.
We're so old now that we have our kids in our league now-very cool times!
And yes, we got our stats Monday morning from the USA Today newspaper before online leagues existed.

You don’t still do live drafts?

Nah we just do it from the house on the laptop.

We still do a in person draft - it’s a way to get together and give each other shite.
We do have optional online options for those that can’t make it

I miss stats not being calculated in real time. Hop on espn.com after each round of games and manually tally the points. Started playing around 2001.

I started in 1988. There was no ESPN.com to check. Had to watch Sports Center and hope they showed your guy make a play or ran his stats across the screen.

I remember having to call the commissioner and leave my starting lineup on his answering machine before 12pm each Sunday.
I’d watch primetime with a pen and pad to add up stats/points. They would never have them all so I was never sure who won until the next day if it were close.

Preparation still matters. We all have guys in our leagues who consistently suck and guys who consistently win. That isn't an accident.

This still happens. Just got home from a live draft where we went to Tahoe for the weekend.

Idk anything about this. I'm old but not THAT old

I’ve never been a part of a live in person draft and I’ve always wanted to be in a league like that, with a trophy and stuff. The league I run now, we’ve had the same 12 people for the past 10 years, but it’s just impossible to get everyone together in one place.
