A friend of mine ( Old Democrat) said that this outcome should surprise no one. He had been saying that he thought the uber progressive end of the Democrats were getting out of hand and had pushed the culture too far to the left. He told me a while back that you can only push the working middle class so far before they wake up and he thought back during the summer that they were awake and they were pissed off.

Thought that the trans gender bathroom thing in North Carolina was a bigger deal to them than was reported and the whole BLM and cop shootings really got them going.

Absolutely. The backlash against PC went mainstream a year ago with South Park. Trump was the physical embodiment of so many grudges against the establishment, political correctness being one of those.

A significant factor along with a still moribund economy through the rust belt.

The PC left got slapped back hard for massive overreach over the last 4 years.

... certainly a part.

Not enough to win it all. More like your friend said
quote:

pushed the culture too far
... and the ability to not even voice a counter opinion (PC part) without nearly the threat of lawsuit - just another straw on the camel's back.

And that the Donald was a known celebrity.

Hillary was such a weak candidate - and people are tired of dynasties - this isn't a Monarch.

But if Hillary ran against a relatively unknown "regular Republican candidate" that not many people know - she probably still wins even though most didn't even like her.

I think it was quite a few things, depending on what part of the country one lives in. People in Florida probably weren't thinking the same way folks in the rust belt were. Trump pinpointed what people were sick and tired of, came up with some talking points/solutions, and went to the people and shared them. That, mixed in with him common sense non PC approach, resonated with the people.

He's right. There's no doubt that anti-PC backlash played a big role last night. People are sick and tired of BLM out there protesting thugs getting shot (people with rap sheets a mile long) and pretending that Police are randomly walking around shooting innocent black folks minding their own business.

People are sick of the transgenders (.01% of the population) forcing us to change state laws to accommodate a few weirdos with mental problems.

People are sick of Obama pretending that Islam is a "religion of peace" when we see videos of Muslims putting people in huge shooting lines and mowing them down with AK's and/or chopping off their heads for lulz. People see what is going on in France and Germany with the Muslim hordes running wild in the streets (and raping women) and they don't want it to begin happening here. People see what happened in Germany when a Muslim raped a 10 year old boy at a swimming pool and was let off by the judge because "The boy never said no." We understand that if Clinton and her ilk had their way that liberal judges here would do the same thing in order not to be perceived as a "racist" or "islamophobes." We don't want the "religion of peace" taking over America, and we don't care if you think that's "racist."

I gotta think Trump won mainly on his trade talk. People in the rust belt want jobs and Hillary's platform of equal pay for equal work, free tuition, and social justice reform didn't resonate. Wisconsinites, for instance, seem like pretty even keeled people. I don't think PC mattered much to them but what do I know? It was pretty impressive what he accomplished.

People are tired of PC which is why President elect Trump was the perfect candidate. He handled it to a tee...

Its time to get work done and stop being so sensitive

I think this, like all elections, was an Economy election.

Definitely. I was tempted to vote for Trump simply as a middle finger to the concept. I'm sure plenty pulled the trigger due to that.
