A compromise is finally emerging among a group of proposals. Under the plan, schools can sign 25 new players while gaining additional signee spots for every player who transfers out of their program—up to a certain limit. The extra spots would be based on the number of players who enter the transfer portal under their own volition and would be capped at a figure, such as seven.
For instance, a school that loses five players to the portal can sign 30 new players. A school that loses 10 players to the portal can sign 32 new signees, if the cap were seven. The replacement cap has not been finalized.

Very much needed in this day and age

Eliminating the saban "medical retirement" rule hopefully.

Yeah that medical retirement shite needs to go.

I think it should be a separate system for transfers.
Like if a guy transfers out you can replace him with a transfer in.
Alabama is already signing like 29 every year.

Would’ve been nice if they implemented this a year ago. If LSU could’ve replaced the spots with transfers for guys like Gilbert, Ika, Brooks, Rosenthal, Hampton etc. they’d be in a lot better shape roster wise

I think we would still have their spots for transfers if this passes. Could be a huge difference for depth next year, particularly oline.

So everybody needs to start recruiting Bama's throw aways. They will use this to sign 35 a year...
However, it is a step in the right direction. Imagine if LSU could have replaced a few of those transfers.

It will be interesting to see how they determine which transfers apply to which recruiting class. If a player transfers out in March 2021 (Hampton), after NSD, does that extra spot count for the 2021 class or the 2022 class? Also does it go by the date that they formally transfer or the date they enter the portal?
We might still have a chance to get extra room in the 2022 class for a couple of those guys, depending on how this all gets defined.

Why? They should make it explicit if schools are too stupid to not do it themselves. It's the right thing to do. It allows the athlete to stay in school on scholarship. Otherwise, they would simply be cut if their spot were needed. You do this smoke and mirrors for players who did all the right things but just didn't turn out to be good enough. Those who want to continue playing would transfer. Don't understand the hostility to it.

I can see a situation like Alabama, Georgia paying a highly recruited four star that’s third on the depth chart or has a significant career threatening injury to transfer to a school like UAB to be able to sign 30 plus ever year…This could open up a whole new level of manipulation that the current administration at LSU will probably mishandle…

Because its dumb. Saban convinces a kid to medically retire only for them to go to another school after they leave bama. Bama gets to fill that spot. Its a sleezy thing to do because the kid isnt actually hurt or retiring.
I guess I didn't mean eliminate that option, but eliminate the need to use it.

I don't like this. Keep the signing class at 25 highs school and JR college/ prep school, the 7 additional slots should be transfers I would think. A lot of transfers are leaving and not getting picked up. This would give these guys more of a chance to continue their educ6 and possibly another shot at college ball. Keeping the 25 rosterspots for the best high school seniors keeps them wanted and competitive less players slip through the cracks and actually play ball in college.
25 highschool and he college slots
7 transfer slots..
Or something similar, someone will learn to take advantage of the system but fix that when it gets there.

Alabama has been signing 30 per year for years now... what's new?
Posted on 9/17/21 at 8:51 pm to GeauxLSU4
Great we'll get a top 10 class with a whole starting Oline from the IVY league.

Now they can sign 10 more 5 stars. Saban is running the NCAA.
