Again, why not grab a Nielsen and team him up with a Kris Richard? It just makes so much sense if O could pull that off!

I know he has some Co-DC experience, but I have no clue if he called plays but I know he did scheme defenses in the run game. Still, I don’t know what kind of play caller he’s be. It is an unknown.

However, the dude has been under Dennis Allen for 4 years so he has to have learned a shitload about Allen’s Super Bowl caliber 4-2-5 defense.

Nielsen’s DL has easily been the most consistent unit of the Saints D. It’s been so dominant, even when our secondary is getting merely average PFF grades, they look awesome because the DL is so disruptive on run or pass, opponents drives result in punts or turnovers.

Which is a good case for why he should have a shot at DC. I just think it too risky for LSU to hire an OC AND DC with no previous experience in those roles. We should be able to just go get good coordinators with experience

I agree with all of that, but why are so many hyped about him being the DC? He is a great DL coach, but how does that equate to confidence as a DC?

Yeah let him stay with the saints please! I don’t want one of my teams to butcher my other team of talented coaches

Would you rather it be LSU or the Atlanta Falcons? Because he’s eventually going to leave either way.

If you go by that reasoning, I assume our new OC doesn't tickle your fancy either huh?

Glenn Schumann LB/Co-DC

Neilsen DL/Co-DC

A man can dream right? And I think Schumann is on the short list with Neilsen.

Two great recruiters and position coaches. Two great pedigrees. I have to think they could put together a sick defense.

Barry Odom is certainly NOT at the bottom of that list.

The funny thing is richard is actually a really good coach.

I don't think he would be a good fit at lsu but i do think the guy can coach

The Neilson obsession is mind boggling. Not saying he'd be bad, but there is absolutely no indication that he would be better than half of the other candidates. Must be a Saints fan thing.

We are aware that being long time DL coach doesn’t equate to being able to take over a defense and calls plays when DC is failing.

I never heard of him before his name started showing up here. I think this guy has 1 or 2 years of small school DC experience a while ago, but he is usually a DL coach at all places he has been. How much is he involved in Saints defensive game planning and with DC about game adjustments, coverages, and calls. Some very good DL coaches are lifers at the position who develop great linemen but not as adapt to see overall picture to install a defensive, game plan, call defensive including pass coverages.

Is he someone who rips his shirt off and runs around trying to act like or relate to his DL while getting them to do what DC wants or has he been an understudy to DC and a part of entire defensive design, planning, and calls? If he gets named DC at LSU he will have experienced support with the former but based on last year not much with the latter.
