re: Deshaun Watson for Tua and additional compensation?

I think the majority of the issues is that Jack Easterby is running the show, and the only person that likes him is the owner.
Supposedly they were set to hire the Steelers’ Omar Khan and Easterby & Caserio/Easterbys agent got in Cal’a ear and talked him out of it.
From the ESPN article:

Khan and ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Louis Riddick, who are both minority candidates, were the two finalists before Texans owner Cal McNair changed his mind, ignored the recommendation of the search firm he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do weeks of work and hired former New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, sources said. Multiple people in the Texans organization, including quarterback Deshaun Watson, were upset with how Houston's search took a sudden and unexpected turn, hiring a man that Korn Ferry did not include on its list of candidates. Watson is said to be furious over the decision, and others are as well, with some saying that there will be employees who wind up leaving the organization during the offseason.

Dolphins would have to give up too many picks. Stick with Tua/Fitz and just build your team.

Not happening with a $22 million cap hit the Texans would take.

Is there any scenario in which Watson ends up in Dallas for Dak? Or is Jerry sticking with Dak and paying the man?

Watson is a proven franchise QB you take him for rookie that was injured and so so and a few picks 1000 times out of 100

Sounds like Watson is a victim playing SJW, just build around Tua.

With #3 take Zach Wilson,Trey Lance,or even Trask, let em battle it out next training camp. Keep both or trade who doesn't win the starting spot -- you gonna get good picks for em.
With Tua I just worry with as serious an injury as it was ,will it be problematic in the future(only GOD knows that)

But when O’Brien was fired apparently he was assured he would have input but he wasn’t even told they hired a GM he found on Twitter. Pretty disrespectful to not even call the most important player by far and say hey we’re going with Nick Caserio as GM at least.
I wanna address this specific point before I address the trade hypothetical. Yes, McNair screwed up by promising to give Watson input on hires. But Watson and his agent have met McNair and know how squirrelly he is—that “press conference/announcement” the other day was cringe—and were pretty naive if they thought he (or even the best owner in the NFL) was going to let a 25-year-old, 4th-year QB have significant input into the hiring of the 2 most important non-player positions of a $3 billion franchise.
I like Watson a lot, and he must be pretty intelligent to have graduated from Clemson in 3 years and picked up a complicated NFL offense almost immediately. But he hasn’t been around long enough in life in general and the NFL specifically for his opinion to hold much weight regarding such hires. Hell, anybody besides BOB would probably seem like a genius in comparison.
He just hasn’t been in the league long enough to have even been around all the different coaches and GMs in the league to give an informed opinion. And McNair is hiring to build a winner and increase the value of his franchise, while Watson would likely—and understandably—be drawn to a more offensive-minded coach that would be able to showcase his talents. And isn’t he on vacation? How’s he supposed to give an informed opinion unless he was actually present for the interviews or at least available to go out to dinner with the potential candidates?
Again, McNair screwed up by promising it and not at least giving Watson a courtesy conversation before hiring. But Watson and his representation were pretty naive if they thought he was gonna get significant input. As big as the NFL contracts have gotten for QBs, they still don’t have that kind of Lebron juice. Didn’t Aaron Rodgers pretty much hate their latest HC hire at first? Or at least the fact he had no say whatsoever? Wasn’t too pleased they drafted his potential replacement in the 1st round this year either. And he’s certainly earned that much more than Watson at their respective career stages.
Another thing to consider—and it may be that Bieniemy just wanted nothing to do with interviewing for that job—is that BOB fricked them so bad that even with Watson, that’s just not a desirable gig right now. Especially if McNair sucks.

From where I sit, Watson is crying because BOB fricked the roster and the team’s future assets and took them from a potential playoff dark horse to finishing with the 3rd overall draft pick... which they don’t get to keep because the 3rd overall and the 3rd pick in the second got traded to Miami for Tunstil.
I normally have no quarter to give for players who pull this shite but the Texan front office was so goddamn incompetent that I have sympathy here.
The team’s defensive vet, JJ Watt, going up to him and saying “Sorry we wasted one of your seasons” sums a lot up.

Miami gets:
Watson
Houston gets:
Tua
1st (#3), 2022 1st
2nd (#36), 2022 2nd
Why Miami would do it:
- Franchise QB
- They still get the 2021 18th overall pick to draft another quality player
- They still get 3rd round picks the next 2 years
- It would likely push them into playoff contention for the next 5 years
Why Houston would do it:
- Rebuilding with draft picks, allowing the GM to rebuild properly
- #3 overall pick allows them to either get a franchise QB if Tua isn't it OR trade for more assets
I think Miami would have to give up both their #1s this year and at least another 2nd for Houston to entertain it. I’m not sure Tua is much of an asset at this point. He’s got a weak arm, and isn’t nearly as athletic as we thought he was at Bama. And he’s small. He could be a nice placeholder for a year maybe, a really good backup, and a potential trade asset down the line.
Bit this trade could actually work for both teams. Miami got good with a young, inexpensive roster while somehow managing to collect early pick assets. All they need is a dynamic QB. May as we’ll cash in those picks and go for it. Especially with Allen and the Bills emerging in the AFC East.
***I have no idea about the cap situation, though***

No he got a legit beef ... ownership incompetence is his business... dude wants to compete for championships
That is understandable. If he believes the Texans don’t give a shite about winning I get it. If he wants to try and hold them hostage to hand pick the coach then he is part of the toxic environment.

On Bienemy The last sentence is plausible but we’ll see if he gets a HC job where he goes and if he’s holding out for a certain job not wanting to work for certain owners in the current climate I’d think he want to let that be known even if it’s behind the scenes.
As far as the Texans, yes OBrien made some awful trades and it definitely puts them in a bad spot but (and I know people hate woulda couldas :lol;) but they could have easily won 7-8 games this year with minor tweaks but that aside a competent GM and good coach could have them around 8 wins next year and a chance to be back in contention with Watson.

I agree you shouldn’t let a player make the hire but if you told him you value his input then a courtesy call to let him know who you hired is a bare minimum. Blow smoke up is arse and tell him you liked his suggestions but decided to go another direction but to not call at least is total incompetence

The chain of events I see are that Watson got upset because Chiefs’ OC didn’t get an interview and the guy who got the job wasn’t even on the lists of finalists made public.
AFAIK, the only promises were that his choice would get an interview ans that he would get to weigh in on the choice. Still McNair’s final decision but refusing to even give lip service to Watson after promising it was fricking stupid.

To someone that judges QBs based solely on team performance it’s not surprising you do not realize it but feel free to start Brandon Allen
