S Acadian & Claycut new blacktopPosted by FishinTygah84

heading down South Acadian from Government and they have had the right lane blocked off since redoing the street. I didn't think much of it, but after like 3 months i started looking and noticed that right lane gets to be like 7 ft wide
then the turn lane opposite from it is the same way. What a disaster

I’ve been wondering that. They really ducked up. They actually opened it like that for a day or so. It was really dangerous.

This is one of the world's most poorly designed intersections. Ever.

You are going to love the plan for improving College Drive.
They are going to narrow the lanes slightly, then somehow fit new sidewalks and a 3rd northbound lane in there.

How about that new gas station going up though

I’ve tried to remain optimistic but they’ve royally fcked up Government street. Traffic/congestion was never a problem, now you have to sit at the Govt/Acadian light for 3 cycles to make it through.
The initial plan to reduce lanes never made sense to me, now it’s pretty clearly a mistake.

No shite. I warned everyone about this when the diet was being discussed.

Was this the much hyped "traffic diet" plan?
Only in BR could they think that reducing roadway capacity would reduce traffic...

Part of the intent was to force pass-through traffic over to North Blvd and Florida. I see some of y'all are not smart enough to take a hint.

What's it like to be so intellectually superior to the great unwashed? You should really try to be more humble.

My favorite is Burbank from Nicholson to Jennifer Jean. In order to add a suicide lane, they just squeezed five ones into the same amount of space as the existing four lanes.

Camellia and Johnston in Lafayette scoffs at the notion.

Here’s another hint, if it was a good option before the diet more people would have already been using N Blvd. Commuters know it’s there. It’s not as if it is hidden.
But there are several factors at play. One folks heading to LSU or areas along the Government St. Corridor wouldn’t use N Blvd. They have to use Government the most Southern major E/W artery north of 10.
Two, N Blvd. ends at Foster. Traffic can’t use N Blvd. unless they use Foster and other East West arteries. N Blvd being a left turn off Foster heading north is another factor.
I suspect in time traffic patterns will change but businesses along Government won’t see any real boost in business. Locals close to the area will frequent those establishments as they do now, but outsiders don’t come any more than they do now.

I spoke with the supervisor of the construction crew doing the work on Acadian. The plan is to widen the road where the arrow board is. The intersection at Claycut is to re designed. And another layer of asphalt is coming.
