You can do exactly what he’s doing with any artists catalogue ever made. The Cure could hire bluegrass musicians and just remix Disintegration. Feels like a money grab
Take a voice, some sell received songs, add in these guy's. . .

Mark Howard - rhythm & lead guitar
Scott Vestal - banjo
Mike Bub - bass
Sierra Hull - voc / mando
Tim O’Brien - voc / rhythm & lead guitar
Miles Miller - voc / percussion
Stuart Duncan - fiddle

. . . it'd be hard to not get something worthwhile.

Why the resentment?

He didn't put out a greatest hits for charity. He went exploring with his own music and if you don't appreciate it for what it's worth don't buy it. Guy likely grew up with this in his DNA and not simply clowning it up like a Cure sample would be.... And I'm not a Sturgill fan but after listening (to more) might start his collection with this one.

Maybe if you don’t want to be on a record label anymore, you make a record they can’t market,” he said, “then you get them to spend a million bucks on an animation film and refuse to promote it, and leave them holding this giant un-recouped debt.

He said that? I like his music but the dude is a prick. Putting a lot of energy to upset his label. Wish he would have put that energy into new music.

I've listened to one Sturgill album all of, eh, one time. It was the Sailor's album. Didn't really grab me though I've been meaning to revisit it. Because of this, I'm unfamiliar with the original versions of the songs on "Cuttin' Grass".

Gotta say, this is a fricking killer album. Not because it's incredibly creative, not because there are incredibly deep meanings and threads strewn throughout the album, not because there's anything groundbreaking going on here.....none of that applies. What it is is just an album filled with goddamn great songs, musicianship, and general vibe from the first track through to the twentieth. You're driving for an hour? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass". You're dicking around on the internet for an hour or so? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass". You're out on the deck grilling up some dinner and drinking a cold beer? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass". You're cuttin' grass? Throw on "Cuttin' Grass".

I'm going to have to dig deeper into his catalog after enjoying this so much.

I think Sailor’s Guide is his best. Love how he uses the horns.

S&F, Sailors, and Metamodern are all so good and different it’s hard to rank them.

That’s what’s great about him. So many different opinions depending on your tastes. I would rank them:

Meta modern
Sound and Fury
High Top
Sailors Guide

It’s to get out of his contract actually.

ETA: Per an interview from him although someone said this was on his own label.

And it deserves it. Finally got around to listening to the whole thing on Spotify, and it is incredible. Reminds me of why I was a Sturgill fan, and it has made me fall in love with these songs all over again.

Metamodern is in my top 5 of the last decade. Sailors is also incredible, would probably be in my top 25 albums from last decade as well. Sound & Fury and High Top Mountain are great as well. He’s batting .1000, for me at least.

Interesting album cover. Pretty cool to have The Rock riding a lawn mower.

I’m not a huge fan of his politics but he drew down on a home intruder with an AR. Definitely not a “soy boy”

So are 99% of musicians. What's your point?
