Gonna get shelled but find this album really boring and simple. You can do exactly what he’s doing with any artists catalogue ever made. The Cure could hire bluegrass musicians and just remix Disintegration. Feels like a money grab

No one wants to hear a cure bluegrass album. A shite load of people want a sturgill grass album. If it’s a money grab it’s well deserved.

You don’t know that until you hear it re engineered. I like the Cure and I like bluegrass. Cure aside, the point is there are multitudes of bands that can easily do this concept. But prob feel it’s too gimmicky. Well deserved? That’s ridiculous. The Wooks or Sam Bush (and so many others) are well deserved of money being made off bluegrass but they won’t see it. Here we have someone who is just inverting or re-packaging previously successful commercial albums into another format. That’s just taking advantage of a built in following. He’s just created a sales funnel. Here’s my lead magnet, now sign up for my newsletter. Buy my products. Prob a joke even to him.

I'll be more fine with this bluegrass album if he puts out some new stuff shortly after.

I like it...but still want new stuff.

No but I’m sure they can hire musicians from there. Or a KY outfit could sample a cure album. But if that’s your central albeit Bery flawed point, I’m sure My Morning Jacket could put out a pretty similar album. They’re from Kentucky. How bout Cage the Elephant?

I mean, I get what you mean here but the original intent (per Sturgill) was to release these songs how he originally wrote them. I've enjoyed the shite out of it thus far, especially the new ones.

Also, I'm now curious to hear a bluegrass Radiohead song.

100% this is a great album of old songs redone. all proceeds go to charity. im sure he's sitting on a ton of new songs as well.

If you're from the Commonwealth, you may want to get the limited edition Blue version from VMP

It's been done. Here ya go....

Punch Brothers - Kid A

Punch Brothers have a lot of bluegrass roots, though not sure I'd label them entirely bluegrass. But still a great cover.

I think he's giving the proceeds to charity.

Either way, he's doing this to finish out his current record contract. He hates his label.

again, not the point. anyways, he's fulfilled his contract with elektra now so he's off the hook from them. this album's $ goes towards charity.

also there's this quote:

quote:

“Maybe if you don’t want to be on a record label anymore, you make a record they can’t market,” he said, “then you get them to spend a million bucks on an animation film and refuse to promote it, and leave them holding this giant un-recouped debt.

with sturgill, there seems to always be a plan

Most bluegrass is. Kinda cool to hear his songs done in bluegrass, but don't see this one staying in my rotation for very long. A few standouts(I really like the Just Let Go and I Don't Mind), but most are forgettable.

Oh frick yes! That was about as strangely bad arse as I expected it to be. Side note, my old college roommate looks like a short Chris Thile.

Im not entirely through but I don’t mind seems to be the star of the show so far. Some other good stuff but that’s the standout on the first listen.
