I can not for the life of me consistently catch fish out of the rigolets. I have good to great luck in hopedale, Leeville, grand isle, and espescially pointe aux chenes.

Where do I need to go, what do I need to do?

Hire a guide!
Seriously, I’m not joking.
That side of the lake is tough to fish, especially since they closed the MRGO.
It’s an area that requires local knowledge and experience.

The people catching fish over there are on the water a LOT.

It's not gonna be consistent year round. Just depends on salinity/water quality.

Understatement.

It’s like fresh water fishing for trout.

We fish there a good bit. It can be a tough place. We slay them one time then hardly catch any the next

I've kayaked and boated there multiple times. Every time i boat its damn near a skunk.

I caught 1 rat red, a seagull, and a handful of school trout under the gulls today.

Is it worth hiring a guide for that area? The best I have ever done out there is 3 barely slot reds in the spring two trips in a row...

Listen to the right radio channel at the right time and hope the guides use a radio and not a cell phone...

Fish the western shoreline of Lake Borgne in the fall when the tide is falling. In the summer fish the Tulane Rig which is in the middle of Lake Borgne. Fish the western side of Lake Catherine in the fall. Personally, I do not fish the Rigolets at all.

catching a good bit around the storms lately...
time on the water...
lot of people catching trout off their docks, specially under the lights, due to the salt water pushed in by the storms...

agree w/ other posters, it can be a tough place to catch. can you make the run to biloxi marsh across lake borgne? the fishing is a little better.

I've fished w/ captain Kris Robert out of there a few times. Most trips were great, slayed them a few times. however, had one really tough trip as well, but hey, it's fishing. I'd recommend him, October/November is a good time to fish the area. It's a much better area in the fall based on my experience.

I don’t fish the Rigolets proper. Too much traffic on the weekends when I can actually go. The community Honey holes in Mud Lake and Lake Catherine are turned on. If you can go on a weekday there will only be about 50 boats in those spots. Weekend... it’s a parking lot.

While you're right about them catching, this is not due to the storms but more of a yearly pattern of the trout and the area

I live in the area and they turned on a week before Sally made landfall

Lake borgne was getting choppy yesterday so we didn't try crossing. About 1/3 across was getting 1-2' white caps from the west wind. We are in an xpress h22b with a 200 yamaha.

Pointe Aux Chenes is our go to, I'm more of a fight oriented guy so I've learned where to target bull reds and small blacktips out there. I would like to find some places where I can catch very large trout on very light tackle. I only keep fish when my freezer gets low, and refish is my favorite inshore fish anyway.

I have a place at Chef Pass and Bayou Sauvage...
it is a yearly deal...however the salinity jumped when Cristobal and Laura went by before Sally...

I live about a 7 mile boat ride north of you. I agree the salinity jumped but it's short lived and doesn't play that much into the trout bite there is what I was getting at. Here's a good take on it
