Weather looks near perfect, should be late enough to not have army worms, wish we had some rain in the forecast next week, but the seed will still be there when it does rain

Doing my own mix this year 3 parts wheat, 3 parts oats, 2 parts winter peas, 1 part elbon rye, with bulk fertilizer per soil sample , after I cover the seed coming back with a mixture of crimson and durana clover with a little chicory and turnips

Planted last weekend. Different blend than in years past. Mix of clover, rye, oats, etc. Hoping it comes up well.

Crimson clover is one of the cheapest clovers you can buy. It grows easy and really takes off in the spring. The only con is it doesn’t like the heat and by mid May isn’t getting brown.

Other clovers like red or white can last longer into the summer. Planting clover is more about the spring time growth than fall.

Planting and spreading white rock. Days of muddy driveways at the camp are over.

Y’all baws looked at the forecast? No rain from now till as far as they can see out. There might be just enough moisture in the ground to get germination but if that happens and then we get no rain that’s worse than it just sitting there in the dry dirt..also If you have Turkey they going to scratch all that seed up by then. I’ll wait..

How many turkeys do you have or how small are your plots for turkeys to scratch all that seed up?

I sprayed and limed a couple weeks ago. I'm bringing my seed and fertilizer this weekend to knockout after squirrel hunting. I'm doing a whitetail institute no till plot.

no till plot

Curious if you are using a seed drill? I’m attempting to no till without a drill this year to save hours of work plowing and improve soil moisture.

ive done no till every year for the last 10 years due to being hard to get to my plots. All I do is cut with a mower or weedeater as low as I can then throw it out. It comes us thick every year. last year I did the imperial mix and the imperial clover no till. It came up awesome and they ate the shite out of it. This weekend i am going to attempt to get a tiller back there and break up soil a bit.

it looks like the forecast for rain may change over the next week due to some disturbances in the gulf they are watching. That's my hope anyway.

Yeah, I waited too long last year and got behind a big downpour and planting was a sloppy arse mess, I think next weekend would be great, but I have plans, and there is some tropical development to keep your eyes on

Planted in mid August, came up great but lack of rain and heat killed most. Planted last week right before a rain and it's looking great.
