My wife and I saw Jared Leto and 30 Seconds to Mars at the Texas Club a lifetime ago. We were not more than ten-feet from the stage. It's the closest I'll ever stand to an Oscar winner.

Gordon Lightfoot at a private party, 30 people, in Taos, NM in 1987.

Saw the Allman Brothers at the Warehouse. Also saw The Kinks who are one of my favorites at the Warehouse; Tom Petty opened this show.

nivrvana, L7 and the melvins at emos in houston wasn't even a venue; they were set up in the corner stage behind the pool table and at the time i didn't know who any of the bands were; only that the noise was annoying.

Saw Fastball ("The Way", "Fire Escape") play to 9 people at the Roux House before it closed down a few years back. That was not a situation where you celebrated being lucky enough to see a great band in an intimate setting, more like "We're sorry this town is so lame".
This is the same feeling I had for STP in the River Center 10 or so years ago. Not a small venue, but the crowd sucked. I could only think of how good that show would have been with a packed house.

Saw Alan Jackson sing in a tiny little bar in Lagrange Georgia. He stopped by there with his wife one Friday night. I was there for a fishing tournament. There may have been 100 people in there total. He took to the stage with a borrowed guitar and sang about 5 songs.
shite was awesome. Very personal feeling.

I saw Garth Brooks at the little Meridian Temple Theater right before he got big.

Saw Springsteen at Maple Leaf in the early 90's. Had a friend who worked there give me the heads up the afternoon before. Came on about 11pm, the doors were shut ,and he played until about 230-300. Say what you want aboit his politics, etc but the man appreciates his audience and puts on a great show. Had locals for the most part backing him up. Along with Nils Lofgren and Patty Scialfa....maybe 250 -300 people

Seven Mary Three at the Castine Center in Mandeville. I’m guessing 30-40 people. No stage, SRO. Someone took a major bath financially on that “event.”
They put in a great show fwiw.

Prince at the Plaza in Lafayette

Queens of the Stone Age at One Eyed Jack’s in NOLA playing their first album from start to finish in 2011. Intimate enough that Homme shared his bottle of vodka with about half the crowd it seemed.
Prince at opening night of his club 3121 in Vegas in 2006...1000 person capacity.
Allen Toussaint playing the piano at the Metairie Barnes & Noble with about 4 other people that knew who he was.

SRV at the ULM basketball arena on the Soul to Soul tour, and I bet there were less than 400 people. Dumbass college kids did not show. We walked right to the stage. He sat on a monitor in front of us for a while, and I could have reached out and touched him.
He was sitting there playing with his eyes closed, just kind of messing around, when my buddy said, “Make it cry, Stevie Ray!” He opened his eyes and looked at us, then closed them and tore that MF up.
He was pretty bad on drugs then and sat down there by us and played without singing, just jamming and soloing, for a good while because he said he “wasn’t feeling too good.” But he went hard until they turned the lights on in the place.
It’ll be 30 years on August 27 since he died.
