The empanadas at Lasyone’s are good.

I nearly always go to Lasyone's because I love the meat pies.
I haven't heard much good about Maglieaux's.
The Landing is okay, but it's been a long time since I've eaten there or at Mariner's.
I had a bad poboy at either Mama's or Poppa's, whatever the names of those places are. It just wasn't very good.

Mama's
the only seasoning they seem to know about is salt and they use a LOT of it.

only been there once but, i thought it was pretty good. Granted , I'm not a great judge of Italian food.

Honestly, if you're just looking for a meat pie you could stop at French Market Express at the exit. Their meat pies are quite delightful.
If you want to stop in Nachitoches to eat then it kinda depends on what you're looking for
Something nice?
Mariners or the Landing
Something sit down but quick?
Magees across from Northwestern
Something sit down but not fancy or too quick?
Cannot go wrong with Lasyones. Its great.
Also I like Mamas and Papas.
Somewhere to fight?
There's a sonic on the highway into town.

The food in Natchitoches > than that trendy, overpriced, pretentious garbage in NOLA.

We ate at Maglieaux's this weekend for the first time and it was good. The prices were very reasonable, too. My daughter had the shrimp & grits, son had a shrimp poboy, and the wife had a crawfish pasta dish and they were very good. I got the black & bleu burger and it was good as well.
Other than that, the only other thing I've eaten in Natchitoches was the chicken livers from the Exxon station.

Pioneer Pub has some good eating and as a “former local” I went to a lot.
Cane river Bar&Grill pretty good and not a bad price either.
The rest are hit or miss and tend to be more on the tourist side.

Natchitoches Meat Pies are without a doubt the most overrated Louisiana "dish"

I don’t consider meat pies to be a “Louisiana dish”. I consider a meat pie to be a Natchitoches dish. A good meat pie isn't overrated unless you just don’t like them overall or you’ve had bad ones.

My daughter goes to school there. The best place we have tried is Mariners. Having dinner there Friday night again.

The only place other than some caterers I have found that makes meat pies is Laysones. Everywhere else sells either the regular size or the minis made in the meat pie factory in Coushatta that you can buy frozen in almost any grocery store. RiverRoad, the Natchitoches web site and Louisiana Cooking magazine have great recipes for meat pies that are so easy to make and are delicious.
For great home cooked typed buffet, hit up Almost Home on the lake past Mariners. It's a meat and three plus drink, bread and desert type place and delicious.
