Non teachers have no clue. In Mississippi the tests are not easy. All testing amounts to is politicians getting pockets greased from testing companies. The cut levels keep getting moved every year (moving target) new tests every couple years .... it is bullshite. Kids don’t care anymore and makes schools look bad . My age all we had was a FLE TEST and we all turned out ok

I think most of the OT wouldn't not score advanced on a common 6th grade LEAP test

I'm a teacher (though not currently in the classroom) and I'm not the one who needs a clue.

Teaching is really tough today, much tougher than it was a generation ago. But the biggest problem is discipline, and the second biggest problem is all the hoops teachers have to jump through and all the stupid paperwork they have to do.

Actually teaching the curriculum that is supposed to be taught isn't a burden unless you get kids who are already way behind when they get to your class, and that's not the fault of the curriculum or the standardized test.

Agree on all points . Got 22 years in myself

We are just trying to hit moving targets over here. They get the scores then set cut points. Seems it’s all a game

Only get credit for 1st time testers too and kids know they have several opportunities to pass , it is a no win for schools

88% of my students qualify for free lunch. At the same time, they all have an iPhone and $100 sneakers. If you think that education is a priority in those households, I don’t know what to tell you. I do know that I go home every day knowing that I’ve done the best that I can for those kids, test scores be damned.

100% at my school. They are just good country kids though but reading levels are way behind, mostly single parents, low socioeconomic status for sure

Your "research, analysis, design, and reflection" is what the state is supposed to do to determine what is important for the kids to know.

I corrected your response. Clearly you haven't looked at the "guaranteed curriculum" for my subject matter. It is a pile of crap. It would seem as though you are grossly misinformed.

ETA - my students have excellent test scores, despite the "guranteed curriculum."

What schools are these? In the New Orleans area schools are resistant to suspend or expel students since they loose points.

New Orleans isn’t a great example of how charters work as basically the whole district is chartered—there really aren’t any traditional public schools left in New Orleans to send kids to. In Baton Rouge, this has become a big issue as the number of charters have increased. Schools are getting MFP for kids based on enrollment October 1 and then failing kids out at the first 9 weeks report card that came in with deficiencies.

I taught the valedictorian from Jackson-Olin High School in a community college class, and she didn’t know what a paragraph was.
