Since my last post, I have not been totally dry, but have indeed scaled way back.
I started keto, so my tolerance is damn near gone. Also, I am working out more, so I just don't want to set myself back. Overall, it's been a good experience.

Yea I haven't had a drop. I plan on being way scaled back on alcohol for the immediate and distant future, though. It's already helped me shed a few extra pounds that I was struggling to get rid of beforehand. I also still feel way better than when I was having a drink 3 or 4 nights a week. I don't plan on going back to those ways.

Red wine, in a dose of 2 glasses per day has protective effects on the heart and cardiovascular health. I would recommend switching to that and staying true to a 1-3 drink per day habit than going away from alcohol completely.

2 drinks per day are better than 1. 1 drink is equal to 3, and both those are better than no drinks. At 4 drinks, it starts to lose all benefits

No alcohol per day has much better protective effects for the heart.

0 drinks per day are better than 2.

I get what he is saying. The 1-2 drinks (red wine) has a relaxing "unwinding" effect at the end of the day, relieving stress which is important. That is probably why there are a couple of studies showing that not drinking has the same longevity of someone drinking (off the top of my head) 5-6(?) drinks a day. Take those studies with a grain of salt as they aren't complete. As always with this subject, I can't not link The Good News about Booze that has a lot of such studies. The book also delves into wines, spirits, beer, liquors.

However, as one who likes to sip wine and read some towards the end of the day, I am not partaking in alcohol this month. Feeling great and productive.

I’ve been sober for 6 plus years. I really have no choice if I want to continue kicking arse at life.

Haven't had a drink since New Year's Eve. It hasn't really been difficult, to be honest. But I'd also be lying if I said I didn't miss the smell and taste of a really good IPA.

Sleep has improved a good bit. And I sure don't miss the hangovers. I'll reintroduce beer next month, but if I've learned anything, it's that it's OK to not have a drink every single day.

Haven’t been on this board in quite some time. Glad I stumbled across this thread. My last drink was NYE. Hasn’t been really difficult other than during football games. I love beer and whiskey but in my 30s I’ve definitely gotten to where I hate the feeling when I drink more than I love the drink.

Ryno - weren’t you a staple in the daily beer threads on the food and drink board? Had no idea you gave it up.

Well it’s March and I’m still dry

I honestly don’t even think about booze or crave it

My strength has shot through the roof esp my squat numbers

Conditioning is much better too

Only thing that seems to negatively effect my workout is when I don’t get at least 7-8 hours of sleep

I did that in 1998. Went for 6 months and thought why not see how long I can go. Still going. 20 years now. Seldom miss it. Life is different without alcohol. Different but better. Haven’t had a hangover in 20 years either.

Awesome. I've drastically reduced but had a few drinks since January ended. Like everyone else, my body just doesn't want to take it anymore.

Yesterday I finished a 28-day Keto protocol and that included no alcohol. Highly-recommended- I felt great and the tendonitis in both elbows has subsided substantially after years of inflammation and I leaned out a bit. I got a lot of shite from my buddies for not drinking when we went out but my bar tabs were non-existant and it helped that the girl I'm dating is a fitness freak and rarely drinks.

I started drinking again in February, but outside of one hiccup, my habits have certainly changed. I pretty much stick to 1 or 2 beers a day, if I have any at all. Still haven't had any liquor, and don't have any desire really.

Yep.. that basically sums it up for me.. there comes a tipping point in life where you have to decide if the good times are worth the horrible way you feel the next day- and when that point comes, then (if you’re smart) your drinking days are pretty much over.. i’m In my 40s, and for the last five years or so i’m to the point where i can count on one hand the number of drinks i’ve had in each year, so not totally sober but really, really close.. the hangovers just aren’t worth it the older you get, and not having to worry about driving drunk ever is a pretty big plus as well.
