Is there any downside to buying Amazon right now? Is there really a ceiling?

I suppose the more hand wringing leads to lost gains. I remember a month ago when this stock was in the $1300s. Any chance it hits $2,000 this year?

Amazon is the new bitcoin.

I'm confused by that statement. Amazon is actually makes money? What is bitcoin doing?

The day someone proves that Alexa devices are listening when unprompted is a day I would not want to own AMZN.
However, their money maker is AWS - which is quickly becoming a must have. Its hard to find an IT provider not utilizing it in some way.

Alexa is always listening. It doesn't possess some magic ability to only listen when you use the term "Alexa" to activate a control.

yes, it does.

I heard they're targeting Walmart's consumer base by offering discounts on Amazon Prime to people on Medicaid. At first I thought it sounded stupid, but as high speed Internet becomes more ubiquitous and delivery options become cheaper and cheaper, online shopping may be a huge gain in the lower socioeconomic classes.

Amazon is the perfect model for lay-a-way, you may be on to something.

The Alexa isn't always "listening" The in device technology is only capable of recognizing the wake word which activates the device to listen/record. This was done on purpose as a privacy measure
The only time long term recording is done, which requires Amazon's cloud, is after you wake your Alexa.

There's huge downside once Bezos can't pay Peter (Core business) with Paul's money (AWS operating profits). So watch growth in Azure. I don't believe AWS has sustained market share with stiff competition for a significant amount of time.

If a service is provided to you for free, 99.9% of the time you are paying the cost with some type of personal information. Google is a great example. That free search engine you're using is recording an unconscionable amount of data that Google then uses to sell advertising. I have no doubt Alexa operates the same way, whether google admits it or not.

You could be onto something with this however Amazon has made huge moves to shift itself away from a "core business" model. At one point it was a marketplace/logistics company, at this point it is a mixture of all different things that intertwine with each other which is really where it's value is.
Obviously the counterpoint is what happens when the profitable parts of the company stop being profitable and no longer outweigh the non profitable parts. Other companies have done so much to catch up with Amazon's logistics it no longer really has that advantage over everyone else.

see GE
Amazon to me is over valued. great company but they can't justify that pe. it would take tons of dumb luck and perfect execution to get thst to be realistic.

I was actually thinking today about selling all the other positions in my short term account and just buying Amazon every day that it’s down.

They are looking into mortgage now? Bezos is turning into Musk with all of these grand ideas. So innovative lol

No offense but this thread is a great indicator that it may be time to buy some put spreads in Amazon
