I'm looking at scopes for my first deer rifle (Bergara B-14 HMR in 6.5 Creedmoor). Specifically, I'm looking at two scopes at two different price points.

Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 and Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x40

As a novice hunter, am I going to benefit from the Swarovski enough to offset the price. I don't mind spending money on a good product, I just want to make sure I'm not buying the Swaro just because its a Swaro.

Most of my shooting will probably be at the 3.5 range.

TIA.

I would meet in the middle and go with Swaro Z3. You’ll never need 18x for shooting a deer.

I would buy the best scope you can afford. If you can afford the swaro, get it.

I really like my Z8...I go to a place that has both and look through them and see what pleases your eyes.

I’m in Missouri on a stand as I type and wish I would have brought a better, higher power scope.

Huh???

If you want to spend that much money on a scope, feel free to do so. OTOH, A lot of deer are killed every year w/ scopes costing much less than $1300. My most expensive scope costs prob 1/3 that much.

In addition you really don't need an 18X scope for typical deer hunting.

The Leupold scope would serve you quite well, leaving a lot of money left over to buy ammo for practice.

Buy once, cry once

ETA - I looked at that exact scope (Z5) and regret not purchasing it. If you have the means, do it.

I have a 3-18x50 leupold VX6. Got it for $1,150. Love the scope. I found its clarity on par with the z3 but with much better mag range.

Look at them and buy which ever one you prefer in hand. I looked through a Leupold vx5 3-15x56 and that was a very impressive scope. Then again I have a hunting buddy with a Swarovski z6 2-12x50 That is straight ridiculous but I can’t afford to spend $2,500+ on my scope.

I bought the Swarovski you linked and absolutely love it. In low light turn power all the way down and hunt for another 10-15 minutes.

Cabelas has a one day sale on 11/19 on a Zeiss Conquest HD5 2-10x42 Z-Plex for $499.99, normally $929.99. Not sure where this scope falls in the Zeiss line up regarding clarity & quality.

Always go with German glass.........ALWAYS

I work in an eye hospital and all they use are german optics, Carl Zeiss, to be exact. When it comes to hacking and cutting on an eye ball, you want he best and that is what they use.
