Hear me out: If we beat Notre Dame, the bowl was extremely important and has great value. If we lose, it was an exhibition and we never cared about it in the first place. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Ah, the Alabama method in that Sugar Bowl against Utah

This is why all bowl games should be moved to week 1 kickoff classics.

issue with your logic is that the regular season still provides the opportunity for ample game tape for NFL scouts to evaluate.

Key was a first round projection at the end of last year. He had plenty of tape from his first two years.

Good thing Ben Simmons isn’t on the team or we wouldn’t be going to any bowl

You dont poses the power to hurt my feelings.

Why didn't you shoot yourself when you started that thread about needing a gun on the OT? Or was that just an attention grab like 99% of your other post?

Guess a 10-win season and a shot at the school's first Top Ten finish since 1-9-12 is just a pile of shite, huh?

If the evaluation process puts a large focus on intangibles such as this, then don't you think that an egually or greater intangible to evaluate in a player would be level of competetiveness as well as commitment to the team concept, both of which would garner a passing grade by playing in the bowl game? Do you think NFL teams would want to draft a player that would be a risk to sit out or fein injury during a professional game due to potential earnings?

It is all risk and no reward to the NFL bound players to play in this "game".

Truth hurts sometimes, and we need to comes to terms with it.

Slippery slope, their may come a time when a potential recruit who is a 5 star decides to bypass college complete and just work with private trainers and coaches rather play college ball.

Soon a freshman RB who blows up and has a monster year will decide to just shut it down. Rather than risk injury and losing millions. Sure he will take a pay cut from what he would get playing 3 years. But he will still get drafted and payed.

For you, maybe. I'm looking forward to getting to watch the Tigers play one more time before the long dark offseason takes hold.

I don't really have much of an opinion on players missing or not missing the game to avoid injuries. That's kind of a case by case thing, I'd think. Some love playing college ball and realize this will be the last chapter of probably the best times of their lives. Some may be afraid of risking their future ability to earn a living playing the game. I won't paint with a broad brush in this area.

good grief, you're quibbling.

"Free" means the players aren't paying cash to go to school and play ball here. They're trading their skill for a free ride. No one ever said players don't work or earn that scholarship - of course they do.

But there's no cash outlay on their part. Free.

possible, but doubtful. the jump between high school and pro is huge from both a mental and physical perspective

this is very possible with an Adrian Peterson type of talent

It's simple... If you get to a MEANINGFUL bowl game (Playoffs/NY6) you won't have this issue. If we continue to have a mediocre record with NFL talent, then this will continue.

You guys can cry all day about these guys having free education.
