The football season is over. The bowl game is an exhibition.

***This topic is specifically about players that are headed to the NFL Draft after this bowl game. Thank you.***

Some of the players have figured this out. The sooner that more of the fans figure it out, the happier they will be. I know that happiness is a literal impossibility for some fans, but that is another point.

The point is that this game means ZERO in the grand scheme for players with immediate aspirations towards the NFL Draft. This game will not add to their draft stock. That film is already in the can.

Now the player could go out there and risk major injury in a pointless game for arbitrary reasons that fans (who are not invested in the players' futures) contrive at their convenience.

It is all risk and no reward to the NFL bound players to play in this "game".

Truth hurts sometimes, and we need to comes to terms with it.

JaMarcus Russell disagrees.

Signed, the Notre Dame defense.

this is only half true. great chance for young guys to step up. first team reps in the extra practices and in a game situation they would not otherwise be allowed.

you are not seeing the whole picture.

These players get a free education, a meal plan, world class weight training, world class athletic facilities, free press, unlimited amounts of gear, and all the poon they can handle...

The school invested in them too. You're acting as if it's a one-way street. It goes both ways. LSU offered them a scholarship, would it have been fair to pull the scholarship of a 4 year backup? Absolutely not. Nobody wants to see players hurt but getting hurt is a possibility during any time in their careers. They received all the benefits of PLAYING at LSU, then they should actually PLAY.

As long as they got the 100's of thousands of dollars in education, gear, trips, food, weight training, etc then they need to honor their obligation to uphold their end. You're a puss if you're willing to just roll over and accept that players are choosing not to play.

Unless in playoffs it is pretty much a springboard into next season. Now you are going to see a lot more players sitting it out to get ready for draft.
Texas has about 3 not participating.
FSU has one.
I certainly understand if Key sits it out due to injury.
Why risk it? especially with what happened to Jaylon Smith and the TE recently

I played football in college, if anyone knows the workload it's me. The work is worth the glory if you love to go out and play football. And I was D2 and didn't receive any of the same recognition and fan love as these guys get.

No more than 20 per NCAA rules. That's a hell of a part time job if you ask me.

Sugar Bowl was a BCS game. If LSU was in a NY6 bowl Key would play

So...not free? You worked for that education. You worked for that glory. You even worked for the opportunity.

Your goals are/were just different.

This is me as well. I don’t judge a season by bowls. If you’ve had an average 9-3 type season it can be a nice little boost, and if you’ve had an even worse year it can really boost morale. A loss doesn’t really bother me as much as long as it’s competitve.

I really do judge bowls separately from regular season. The two processes just aren’t similar at all really.

I have always loved bowls. Gives something to watch during the holiday season, bowl pick em pools are fun, get extra practices, see matchups we don’t often get, often fun sites to travel to, see some players for the last time, and the players get to have a nice reward after a long semester of classes, practice, workouts, and pressure filled games.

People that complain about too many bowls baffle me.

LSU bout to play against Notre Dame and I’m pumped to see it

exactly, but that does not fit the "salty fan" narrative.

Bull shite.

If Key doesn't play this year LSU will be the only school that has had two players sit out.

LSU - where the players use LSU as a stepping stone to the NFL and don't care about winning.

I just feel like that's creating a very slippery slope regarding players and bowl games. Pretty soon we're going to get to a point where all the starters shut it down and get ready for the draft. This is particularly bad for teams like LSU that typically produce a high volume of NFL talent. When we're losing to the UCFs of the world because all our starters shut it down and we're playing all freshman, it's going to look bad and it's going to impact recruiting going into the offseason.

Do they wear fricking jerseys with LSU on them? Helmets? Does another team fricking line up against us? They keep score? Then it goddamn counts.
