Why did Bertman step down when he did?

He really wasn't that old, and probably could have held on another 5 years. Did he really want that badly to become AD?

It was taking him 5 minutes to walk out to the mound that last year.

And you were never certain he would make it.

We were lucky he coached till 63, South Carolina's championship coach retired to become AD at 54 years old. Right off back to back titles. Now they aren't in Omaha. You think they're pissed?
