La Concealed Carry question?? Advantages of lifetime vs the 5 year.

I know the 5 year means no background check when buying a gun but the lifetime still requires one. But I’m still unclear of what is needed every 5 years once I pay for the lifetime. I know you still have to take a class and provide proof. But is it all the same paperwork and affidavit’s again also?
Thanks OB Experts!

Neither, why do you want to put yourself on a government list declaring yourself a gun owner?

Too late. I’m on my third renewal.

If the raise the price on the 5 year license. Or they quit offering conceal permits. Sounds crazy but who knows what kind of craziness they will pull. There was talk Obama wanted to make applicants get psych evaluations.

People like you made working at a gun store miserable lmao.

I had one and recently let it lapse. I was told By a gun store who offered classes I couldn’t just pay a fee and renew. I actually had to take the whole class over again. To be honest, whenever I’m out with the wife I’m always drinking so I couldn’t carry anyway.

Basically the lifetime is just a pre paid membership vs paying every 5 years. You still have to "renew" your "Training"

I have a free lifetime from being prior military but still have to take the course every 5 years

you have to retake the shooting test every 5 years, you don’t have to take the class. It’s a minor inconvenience and honestly I I’m fine with it

I think the only difference is you don't have to pay again for renewal. Still have to go through and pay for the course every 5 years. Also, they still background check me with a 5 year CC. Damn 7 day hold every time I buy a hunting rifle.

One of my best friends owns a pawn shop. I don't buy many new, I buy from individuals where there is no record. If I every have to give up weapons, I'll give up all the ones that I bought through a retailer.

Why give up any?

I have a lifetime and still can use it for the background check. It still gets verified every 5 years when I have to renew it. I got it to save money over the long haul and to not have to pay any future increases.

Give up a weapon? Why on earth would you EVER even think about doing that?

Nope, only works for the first 5 years after issuance of the lifetime permit. Once you're over that 5 years, you have to go back to doing NICS checks
Having a lifetime presents 0 benefits over 5-year outside of the raw financial savings. It's a wash or net negative in every other way.

you don't think pawn shops have to do NICS checks and store all their 4473s for 20 years like everyone else?
only way theres no record of a transaction is if you deal privately with someone with no FFL intermediary

If it ever gets to a point when armed law enforcement personnel come to your door to confiscate firearms (don't think that will happen in my life time), you'll give them up, no matter how tough you talk.
What I see happening is a voluntary registration of firearms, which will turn into a mandatory registration, which will lead the ATF to matching up the registration database with purchased firearms. They'll investigate those firearms that are not registered.

As much as possible, I buy privately from individuals, not from retailers/pawnshops.
Just throwing in about my buddy's pawnshop.

I can say with complete confidence that I will NEVER hand over any of my guns willingly. Even if that means dying.

Tough talk, but when it comes down to dying or losing your job or jail time, and not being able to take of your family, 99.99% will give them up.
Best to just go completely off the grid - somewhere like Alaska - if you feel that strongly.
There's not gonna be a Civil War or anything like that. Whoever controls the money will control the country.
