If it's Campbell or Rhule I'll take Campbell and he's still iffy to me but at least there's some substance to his body of work. There's nothing to suggest Rhule is the home run hire this board calls it.

But he’s also lost 33 games there in 6 seasons. So he’s lost 20 times to unranked teams. Who cares if you beat Bama if you lose to Vanderbilt and South Carolina? I think Campbell’s probably a really good coach and would be fine with him, but he’s not as qualified as Rhule.

What is it that makes Rhule more qualified than Campbell?

He’s a better recruiter for 1. Has significant NFL experience for 2.

I know Iowa State’s program is historically terrible, but Campbell’s only losing less than 5 games 1 time in 6 seasons isn’t a red flag for you? He’s had one nice season where he still lost 3 games. And it was the weird arse COVID year last year where all results should be taken with a grain of salt.

so winning a conf champ at fricking temple isn’t substance. Taking art briles dumpster fire he left for Rhule at baylor from 1 win building them up and getting 11 wins and a NY6 bowl isn’t substance.

Thank god you don’t make decisions.

Oh it is. I had a thread about Campbell the other day that got a similar response. He seems to have a built in excuse for losing because he's at Iowa State. He had a 9-3 record last year and a top 10 team coming into this year with a ton of returning starters and they faceplanted to a 5 loss season. I was met with push back on that with everything from "so he's a bad coach because the media overated them?" To "the fact that he had Iowa State in the preseason top 10 in the first place speaks to his talent as a coach".

I also don't get it

Baylor 4 years before Rhule
11-2
11-2
10-3
7-6

3 years under Rhule
1-11
7-6
11-3,

so he got worse in year 1, below average in year 2, and had a good year 3.

Same thing for Temple
4 years before Rhule
9-4
8-4
9-4
4-7

4 years of Rhule
2-10
6-6
10-4
10-4

Once again, got worse in year 1, still below average for year 2, then in year 3 and 4 did a little better, but somewhat in line with previous coaches.

We’ll, we’re on the same page regarding Campbell then. As far as Rhule goes, I caught him on the radio (national) right after he took the Baylor job, and he blew me away, so I’ve probably paid attention to him than most. He’s a very impressive guy. YouTube some of his talks.

That said, like you I think, Aranda remains my #1. But I had never really considered Rhule a legit option until today, so I may have to re-think that. I think both have really high ceilings, but Dave may have a lower floor.

Do you forget all the shite that happened at Baylor before he got there? Briles got in trouble they had scholarships taken away and a ton of players left.

Pretty sure the record will be a little different if he had LSU players

Read this article. FYI, Baylor and temple was comparable to Vanderbilt in their own conference
