People are such sheep.

https://dnyuz.com/2021/11/27/how-austin-became-one-of-the-least-affordable-cities-in-america/

quote:

In the neighborhood of Northwest Hills, about 20 minutes northwest of downtown, where Mr. Gordon does a majority of his business, 18 of the 19 homes on the market this spring sold for more than the asking price, an average of a 113 percent spike, Mr. Gordon said. One home, listed at $975,000, was sold for $1,395,000 after a grueling bidding war.

Jon Kniss, a photographer from Nashville, took desperate measures to find a home when he moved to Austin last year. For months, he blanketed his new neighborhood with letters of cash offers. Nine months and more than 200 letters later, the Kniss family moved into a three-bedroom house in an affluent community northwest of downtown. “We wanted to see if we could get a little advantage,” Mr. Kniss said. “Great weather, quality of life, the schools. Everybody wants to move here.”

I guess that's what happens when half of California moves to a city.

Is Houston still considered the best value as far as the cost of living amongst big cities?

I’d have to say so since I’m paying Seattle prices due to my industry

I moved to Walton County Florida last year. We bid $200k on a .35 acre lot and didn’t get it. The buyer just put it back in the market at $650k. Not sure they’ll get it, but that’s how absurd things are.

Dude does more than photography. No way he can afford north Austin prices just being a photographer.

I mean, to be fair this isn't exactly unique to Austin.

Austin the city is ghetto and there are homeless people EVERYWHERE. You get north and NW, and it's beautiful hill country. 3BR 2BA 2300 sqft is gonna cost you 500k though.

Insane

The article mentions that the city just passed a law against public camping. Yeah, that’ll work. Austin will be the last place that sweeps the homeless off the streets.

You’re not finding anything that cheap unless you possibly get in a cookie cutter home around Llano.

Limousine liberals.

They care about virtue signaling, not helping people.

Dislike liberal social policy as much as the next baw, but you guys are just like “liberals”
Everything bad on TD = liberals did it
Turn on the Twitter and everything bad = conservatives did it

Social media has devolved into a strange political tribalism. Real life interactions are rarely like this. Everybody love everybody damnit
