OU is not outbidding LSU at this point in time.

OU is a more wealthy institution than LSU. We're consistently top 5 or 6 annually. LSU fluctuates from 10 to 15 or a little worse.

If OU wants to keep Riley, we will. The question is do we feel like he's worth what you guys are offering him. Riley didn't make OU. We helped make him. Personally I'd rather have Aranda rather than paying Riley like aTm is paying Jimbo. Riley hasn't earned it IMO.

Im putting all of my faith and trust into y’all with this. I just told my wife this is the worst emotional roller coaster over something that will have zero impact on my life.

That’s their plan now. Possibly even offer him more than 10 and give him what budget he wants for his staff. Think they hit a snag with their #1 to replace Riley in early talks

This is what i believe happened. Not good for lsu.

You’re going to put all your eggs in the basket of somebody who claimed that someone else was using his account when he got called out on a post

It's entertaining to me. I love LSU but I'm not as emotionally invested as I once was in sports. I like reading all of the speculation though.

LSU has made the last three coaches to come through. Name any other program that Les Miles or Ed Orgeron could win a National Championship. Saban wasn’t exactly on everyone’s radar before he came to BR. What y’all did with Riley? Cute. LSU will make him a National Champion.

I still don't understand the allure of Riley, but I'm certainly no coaching guru.

Nobody schemes up free yards like Riley does. Beyond that, he is clearly excellent at QB development—you don’t have back to back heisman winning #1 overall picks followed by another heisman runner up first rounder by accident.

Even if you don’t believe that he’s responsible for the insane QB play and think it’s just a matter of having talented players, he has such a great reputation for QB development at this point that he will keep getting similarly talented players (He’s recruited 3 #1 overall QBs over the course of 5 recruiting cycles). Also, given what he did with jalen hurts—who never looked the slightest bit special at Bama—I DO buy that he plays a big part in the development.

As for the scheme: one “stat” that really illustrates how lethal his offense can be is that, in 2018, they had THREE 1000+ yard rushers. It’s not just air raid, throw the ball 60 times per game and rack up crazy passing numbers via volume. He can fit the offense to his personnel.

Dude is, imo, the real deal. And even if he ISNT the real deal, he has enough of a reputation as the real deal that he is going to bring in such obscene amounts of offensive talent in recruiting that his offenses will perform like he’s the real deal.

I'm not sure I buy totally into this. OU had some very stout defenses in the late 2000s. Don't know the exact reason for their recent defensive struggles, but OU has had great defenses before.
I've never been able to figure this out myself.

I, personally, don't think it has anything to do with "soft", players or mentaility/attitude.

The only thing I can come up with is that they have convinced themselves sitting back in a shallow zone is the only way to play defense. And then they face a power team who takes the top off of them occasionally and they don't have the back 7 coached up and experienced enough to play any other way. Last year with Bo for us is the style defense they are convinced is what is necessary in their conference in a way.

In short, I'm going to say it is simply experience facing any thing other than what they face in-conference AND on their own practice field.

Bob Stoops was a DC at Florida for spurrier and really damn good one. My only thought is the spread took off solely in the Big 12 in the early 2000s and slowly grew. The Big 12 and defenses just couldn't adjust - hell you see it today it's really hard unless you have a rare elite DC. The big 12 also reflected its recruiting base mainly Texas and OU where the spread really took off and defense was lackluster there as well.

Just my 2 cents.

I'll give you a hint. His name rhymes with Dyke Moops. Riley and Grinch are still recovering from him setting the program back a decade. Moving to the SEC should help on this front.

He is not leaving oklahoma for 1 or 2 mil.

Hopefully oklahoma won't budge on the staff pay since that is a big deal to him.

Sounds like oklahoma is engaged with him now which isn't a good thing.

2.5m per year over 8 years is $20m, not 1 or 2m.
