re: Why would Aranda turn us down?

Aranda reminds me so much of Saban
Aranda is like a more friendly Nick Saban or Bill Belichick.
All are astute and brilliant studies of the game, and very meticulous. Dave just seems "nicer" than the other two. I hope he ends up at LSU. He was atop my wish list when O first was terminated. Hell, I wanted him to get the intern HC position when O got it.

If he says no to us you have to look straight at Woody. These guys all have professional pride and none of them want to be anyone's second choice.
If I were Aranda, I would be pissed if my accomplishments at LSU were ignored bc Woody was too busy trying to reel in some pipe dream like Riley.
Would sign with USC because I was there first choice instead of being LSU's second choice.

School wise LAU is a huge step up in programs, but living in BR or the area may just suck too much for him to come back.

I’m guessing we have not made Aranda an offer to turn down. If Woodward is truly waiting for an answer from someone else, he can’t throw around offers to others.. he can gauge interest, but perhaps Aranda is much lower on Woodward’s list than mine.

Who says that Aranda loves LSU all that much? Dealing with LSU fans/ boosters can be infuriating....I mean many top tier programs are like they are a bit crazy, but places like LSU, Texas and to a lesser extent Tennessee can be maddening.

Any team historical program will have this “pressure”. At least LSU has extremely fertile recruiting grounds with NO in state Power 5 competition to sweeten the pot.

Do the potential Title IX sanctions not also take away from the attractiveness of the LSU job? I am not saying LSU gets any, but there is an active NCAA investigation going on isn't there? LSU is definitely a top job, but with the volatility of coaching jobs, is a coach not going to consider that?

Well, he is from CA and there is a pretty big job opening there.

Probably because BR isn’t paved with gold like most people around here think.

Guys, nothing actually happened yesterday. Woodward lost faith in Riley saying yes so he contacted the next man down on the list so we don't end up in some ridiculous situation like having to hire O again. And I mean hire O again literally. There's about a 5% chance Aranda wants USC instead, but otherwise we're still in the situation where whoever Woodward likes more between Napier and Aranda will be the coach should the huge targets fail.

Aranda is the smart hire. He will lock shite up on defense and he should be able to go out and get a great OC. College football has turned into an offensive scoring spree and it will go back to defense. Aranda seems to be one of the smartest defensive guys out there, so go find you a bright offensive mind to turn the offense loose and let Aranda and his DC handle the defensive side of the ball. Aranda seems like an all business head coach and looks like is trajectory to greatness is on its way.

The only reason Aranda would turn us down would be if he doesn't care about winning championships.
If he values quality of life over winning, he isn't a good fit for our program. Baton Rouge cannot provide a better QoL for him or his family over anywhere else.
That said, if his life goal is to win, there is no better university on the planet that's hiring right now. The sky is the limit.
Bottom line is: What does Dave Aranda value?

The fertile recruiting ground argument will only get you so far when speaking of locales. If LSU knows it, you can rest assured that schools like A&M leverage their proximity as well. They've used it....Edna Karr has a bunch that go elsewhere like A & M. Alabama wrested away the pipeline DiNardo had built at W.Monroe.It has been that way for 20 years or more. We still get a majority of the skill players but the fact that we are the only P5 team in the state is a double edged sword.

Such a lazy take.

Another argument: Just look at every OT thread talking about moving out of BR. How many of those guys would ever come back?
I don't think you leave BR and come back if you don't have family pulling you here.
Like I said previously, the only way Aranda comes back is if he wants to win championships over anything else. If you can come to LSU, recruit, and put up with the BS of living in Baton Rouge, you can win.
