I really don’t have any moral high ground to judge them for it. I left after high school in the 80’s and never went back. Moved to an arguably worse place (NOLA).

But I was home last week taking care of my ailing mom. I drove around leisurely and took a lot of it in. Just a couple of observations:

Shreveport still has some nice, old, scenic neighborhoods. The schools are better than they were back then (Byrd was a ghetto). There is not one modern amenity that you don’t have. Shopping is way better since they converted the cotton fields into shopping centers. Crime can be an issue, like everywhere else, but the criminals mostly stay on their side of I-49, If what you want is to live your life and raise a family, generally unbothered, it’s a good place. If you are young and crave excitement, entertainment, fancy restaurants, a social scene…. Yeah, move to Dallas. But anyone who thinks Baton Rouge is so much better, it’s just not true.

Sentimental Slippy out.

To be fair, most of the people I know IRL that shite on Shreveport are actually from Shreveport. So it's fair to assume it sucks.

But, the Square..

That was kinda the Heart and Soul of Shreveport back in the day.

I mean, if that is your measuring stick, sure. Why not? Two crappy cities fighting it out to be the less shitty one.

Lets put it this way. If Louisiana was a hunting camp, Shreveport would be the plastic bucket without a bottom outside in the bushes with the broken toilet seat on it.

I’d rather live in Shreveport or BR than Dallas

When your main bar is attached to an overpriced steakhouse you know the city isn’t that great. Also crime there is pretty rough.

I too left Shreveport in the 80s after school and never looked back. I’ll take your word for it on the attributes of Shreveport. No desire to ever return.

Shreveport is just a small sized city in the South. Not many cities fitting that description are great.

Stay in the SE area and you'll be fine. We have a few decent restaurants, 2 really good breweries, the magnet program gives us quality public schools, and we have a few beautiful old neighborhoods.

I'd leave Shreveport in a second, but I don't think I'd move anywhere else in LA because all the cities in LA are the same to me. Sure NOLA and Lafayette have more culture, but I don't really care that much about south LA culture.

Shreveport does take a lot of heat from this site. Some of it earned and some not. But it has one thing going for it that will forever keep it from being the worst city in LA, it’s not Slidell.

The problem with Shreveport is that it’s filled with Yankees.

I work on the NW side of Shreveport every day. It’s almost apocalyptic.

It’s a feature of the post-modern influence on our society.

It’s all too easy to nitpick, throw stones, or tear down. It takes vision, fortitude, and wisdom to build up something good, to be thankful for blessings, and to take honest stock of both the good and the bad.

The OT would complain about paradise.

I’m not saying Shreveport is great, or anything specific about Shreveport at all. I’ve only ever passed Shreveport by on the interstate and have no opinion of the place whatsoever.

And for good reason... every shite hole still has some nice areas. Overall, Shreve is a shite hole.
