i think crime is focused on far too much. other than a smashed car window or porch pirate, how often are normal people who live in decent neighborhoods victims of crime?

Also, as someone without a dog in the fight, the 60s and 70s looks way better than the 80s

80s cars absolutely suck dick compared to 60s and 70s, music is far worse too

80s looks like a “cheap” decade when I look at it.

A lot more often than today

This thread is just nostalgia fuel for a bunch of young Gen-xers and old millennials

Everything built in the 80s honestly does look like cheap plastic. The sports cars are a joke especially. And the buildings that went up around that time too

Look at the mustangs they produced

true...but it would have been awesome to the see the world back then. I remember the early 90s and even as a kid the people interacting with each other so much more than now sticks out in my mind.

oh i completely agree. 80s nostalgia has always seemed weird to me.

60s and 70s were much, much cooler.

Outside I’m of this message board, I more so see the 80s “made fun of” when being looked back on. 60s and 70s get presented as “cooooool” and 80s as “cheap and cheesy”

cassette tape

I switched back to these for my workout mixes. This technology has not been surpassed for this purpose.

This even applies to sound quality. Most people are using Bluetooth with an AAC or SBC codec, and using MP3s as their media. This format just can't touch a "metal" tape with good Dolby noise reduction.

Born in 1973. It's odd to hear about the 60s being so great, not according to my parents. The 60s were a terrible time and they felt like the country was truly going to tear apart over the Vietnam War. Plus my dad was drafted and sent over there. Yeah, not fun.

The 1980s were awesome and the 1990s were great too. I wish we only had to worry about the Y2K bug these days.

I'd say 9/11 was the turning point and it just feels like we've been all downhill since then. The vibe in this country now is that half this country hates this country and wants it destroyed.

It's all relative, man. Happiest time/decade periods have to do with the best years of your life, which for majority of people would consider it as their teenage years. There's no pressure for paying bills, supporting a family, paying mortgage, etc. It was all partying and being with friends, listening to music, watching movies, and having a good time.

That's why some will disagree and say no, the 50's were better, or the 70's were better, etc.

Lastly, I would have to agree with you in the sense that movie and music wise, the 70's & 80's produced the best and most talented music that has not been matched as of today. The amount of talented singers/artists back then were countless.

The lack of the internet so you didn't hear everyones bullshite 24/7 and no real cancel culture sure didn't hurt either

The fact that people could lightheartedly joke about race (All In the Family, The Jeffersons, Sanford & son, Don Rickles, The Rat Pack) and not take it personally was enjoyable.

Today's culture is filled with joyless douchebags looking to play gotcha on social media.

The Day After was scary.

Little known fact from a declassified national security brief I found on-line (should have saved the link) circa 1980: paraphrased: The USSR's military and nuclear arsenals are so far advanced from the current US/NATO capabilities that the Russian Infantry would approach the Rhine before any formidable defense could be mounted.
A nuclear option would not be available, as the USSR civil defense is at a level beyond the US/NATO that the USSR would ultimately prevail at that level of conflict.
The Russians have collected the same intelligence, but sources inside the Kremlin have not acted upon it, because they believe that the balance of power is so tilted in their favor that the data must be false.

Thank the Almighty for Ronald Reagan.

I can tell that you don’t remember the 80s.

My dad’s employer, US Steel, had massive regular layoffs, and Carter had the entire economy in the shitter.

Ronald came along and saved us.

Music was pretty much sh!t.

The 50s, 60s, 70s, and 90s were better in every respect.

Then use wired earbuds and rip your own high bitrate mp3s and enjoy quite literally a thousand cassettes worth in a smaller package with no ff/rw or tape flipping/swapping.

Well give me an IROQ Z over any camaro from the 60's or 70's.

the American made were mostly crap but the exotics of the 80's really set a new standard though.
