Nothing about the fluffy one though, just mostly marketing

Gameday and Fan Experiences

The Pelicans sent a contingent to the Disney Institute for a workshop to get a better grasp on how to take a new approach to their gameday experiences. The music in the Smoothie King Center has gotten a remix in recent years but even the Pelicans want to push the boundaries further. Hales told me, “The NBA actually has rules about what music you can play (in certain situations). We have been fighting the fight. We’ve gotten them to budge a little bit, still trying to incorporate some things that are not the usual things you would hear or see. It’s still meeting some resistance but you know if we were given free rein to play what we want to when we want to it would be a very different experience so I’m glad we are making progress.”

quote:

Hales explained on the broadcasting issues, “nobody's more frustrated than we are. We are in constant communication with Ballys about what's going on, and what the expectation is...They are frustrated. It's not what they want either. We haven't had a history of that being an issue. For some reason, this year, it is an issue. And that's got to be better.”

quote:

The Pelicans will be partnering with a rotating roster of local bars to do activations with corporate and alcoholic partners.

As Hales pointed out, “step one is you got to make sure that just as a general rule, when our games are on: Bars, put it on TV! Nothing makes us crazier than walking into a restaurant or bar and there's another NBA game. That just can't happen. So that's an education issue. That's a networking thing, where we've really got to make sure that that's just the default.”

So much fingerpointing there to from "The League wouldn't let us do this" to government restrictions to bars not playing games and to Ballys. Is it an organizational issue to point fingers everywhere else but the product on the court and the team's own negligence communicating and connecting with fans? These folks have a golden goose in the Saints where they have very little they need to ever do to market locally so they obviously have a problem with "the other child." And rather than some inward reflection to accept any responsibility, it's someone else's fault!

"I think our team is fantastic at keeping their head down and doing their work." They're brand managers, not bean counters. (No offense meant, bean counters!). It's ridiculous that the VP of brand management thinks this is supposed to be a compliment.

Step 1: Put a team on the court that doesn’t suck arse.

Step 2: King cake baby.

Seriously this isn’t hard.

Why did they have to go to a Disney Workshop? Just look at what you used to do.

TV contract with Sinclair is killing the fan support (other than the awful team)

A lot of good memories in this thread.

When cp3 was here, the hive was rockin.

Good times.

Ben Hales has this job because his father is a very well connected NO socialite, former Rex, etc. and he has no idea what he is doing clearly. Add him to the pile Pelicans front office staff with no business at their current position. The entire organization is a dumpster fire all the way down to these guys and it’s quite obvious to even the less-than-casual observer.

It sounds to me like Ben Hales knows how to make a lot of excuses and take very little responsibility. The pels and saints gameday atmosphere have both gone down in the past couple years. He overseees both.

They’re doing a lot of finger pointing, and given the state of the franchise it’s not surprising at all. No accountability whatsoever.

This affects all teams. Not just the Pelicans.

Again, not just a Pels issue.

No, step one is to not suck. Bars aren't going to put something on TV it's patrons don't want to watch.

Stop finger pointing aspects that affect all teams in the league and focus on what you can do better than other teams (besides winning of course).

Make the GameDay experience more entertaining for the fan. Bring back better in game entertainment, the beer garden, SOMETHING. I believe next season will be the season I finally decide not to renew my season tickets. Haven't made a game this season, just feel like I have better things to do with my time at this point.
