Watch his play vs Florida in 2020. He looks like an entirely different QB...

He's decisive with his throws

Comfortable in the pocket

Steps up in the pocket

Good footwork on his throws

In addition to all that look at the playcalling with him. Specifically the read option. Pootz doesn't do any of that.

2020 6 games 54 carries 114 yards 2TD
2021 9 games 58 carries -18 yards 0TD

It's safe to say Peetz will never be an offensive coordinator at a major college ever again.

One of my favorite things about Max in 2020 was his ability to create timely scrambles. And it was a sharp contrast to Myles and his concrete feet. It was a lot like Burrow being able to pick up yards with his feet when he needed to. Not run first. But you can at least make something happen when you need to.

That’s been completely erased this season and it’s not like Max would have done that on his own.

No doubt. Peetz' idea of being unpredictable to help his QB is having his left-handed QB roll out to the right to throw against his body.

But I will say that on plays when Max has good blocking and is out of the pocket or near the sideline, it's on him for still taking sacks and not throwing the ball away. He should know better by now regardless of coaching problems.

Pretty incredible how much more comfortable he looks in that video. Hopefully Peetz is leaving Nuss alone. That's my biggest fear with playing him right now

Yeah... this is the Max I remember hyping up as a true freshman.

Incredible how bad Peetz is.

It's a night and day difference isn't it? And that was a true freshman in his first start.

The kid isn’t a starting SEC qb. Or at minimum a low their one. But to have that kid just stand in the pocket with ZERO frickING imagination zero roll outs. Zero RPOs is a god damned travesty. Why the frick Woodard didn’t make O fire Petz for the rest of the season is unimaginable.

Coaching is part of it but playing on bad/mediocre teams, even teams with heart that really play hard, is terrible for even talented QBs. They get happy feet, they sail passes, they lose awareness, they stop looking downfield as well.

It's like the David Carr syndrome or whoever your favorite example may be.

I'm not as high on Max as I was this time last year but I still think he has talent, but he's regressed and I think while some of it is coaching for sure some of it is just the cumulative effect of being on a not so good team. Most college QBs are not good enough, especially as sophomores, to put a team on their back, instead the rest of the teams drags them down. IMO that's what's happening with him.

If you don’t have an NFL arm you gotta be crazy accurate which to this point (including last year) hasn’t been Max’s strong point. We saw Burrow hit WRs in stride 40 yards down field so often we forgot how hard that is to do. Alas, if Max had found just one of those throws last night we’d probably be celebrating one of the biggest Tiger victories ever right now

But... he can run Joe Brady's offense!

Peetz is as bad of a OC as Bo P was last year as a DC.

Peetz isn't good but neither is Max. He is and always was a limited player. The bigger thing is Boutte isn't there to bail him out multiple times a game

When your entire criteria for an offensive hire is "do 2019 Joe Brady", you're a complete failure of a coach. He hired a first time OC out of the NFL to come in and run modern college offensive concepts which he clearly doesn't understand or have any feel for.

You just hit on the head.

Its always come down to coaching.
Look at Burrow, a decent QB, then LSU gets a new OC, Joe Brady, and we get a NC in 2019.

Lots of idiots were on here bashing MJ hard last night and a few probably got the ban-hammer.

With the right coaching, MJ can be a very good SEC QB.
Lots of other variables are needed in the mix. A good OL and a solid running game is needed too.

Last night against the lil garden gnome St Nick, LSU showed they have the talent to be very competitive again.

Now lets hope the new coach, whomever that may be, can revitalize LSU.

Want to bet? It’s his first year calling plays and he is still a very young guy. Not every fan base and school will be as impatient as LSU.
