These are light years better than the new movies ( Rogue One was good)
So what was all the complaining about when they were first released? I don't remember the complaints except for the flappy eared fellow.
Anyway, they are entertaining movies.

AOTC is a horrible movie, IMO. Some of the worst acting and dialogue you'll see in a film.

If you can ignore the Anakin/Padme bits, Sith was always a good movie.
I’m not sure there’s anyway to legitimately re-appraise Clones. You can’t ignore Anakin/Padme because their romance is the central story, and that horrible panoramic blue screen environment they shot all the scenes in was just ugly.

Doesn’t mean they didn’t suck

No.
They all suck in their own unique ways.

Attack of the Clones is still garbage, but Revenge of the Sith has aged well. Only prequel in my movie collection.

AotC is not something I would consider "light years" better than TFA or Solo (and agree with you on Rogue One) - it's objectively terrible, just in a different way - but I'd still rather watch it that TLJ and RoS.
RotS, OTOH, is a really good movie. They cut a lot of the Anakin/Padme stuff, which means it's a much better movie.
Someone in those writing rooms should have pulled George aside and said, "Sir... you cannot write romance. Let someone else handle that, okay?"

The prequels had a brilliant storyline. Unfortunately it had horrendous writing, really bad acting and painful CGI. And Jar Jar Binks comic relief.
If they had executed well on the actual storyline it would the prequels would be highly regarded.

you are falling victim to the lowered bar syndrome
as in, the last movies were so damn bad, that they lowered the bar to the point that, compared to those last movies, they are now seen as not really that bad now because you saw worse

I would say AOTC is compareable to RJ abortion. ROTS is better than The Rise of Skywalker for sure.

I watched some of Phantom Menace yesterday and it was pretty bad

They may not be great movies, but Star Wars would have never gotten as big as it has without the universe expanding from the prequels.

Reposting as ive said before..
Maul should have left Obiwan after killing his master and watching him hang in a tunnel..in the chaos of a collapsing ship they are separated. Maul senses, finds and kidnaps Anakin. He begins training him in secret. Taking initiative where the jedi failed, instilling that and many other seeds into Anakin's mind.
Anakin should have still been a kid in at least the first act of episode 2 and growing. Obiwan,..devistated by failure becomes pushed by it. He sets out to rescue Anakin. With the help of Padme..He is successful in the rescue, but the corruption in Anakin may have already been too much.
Now, Padme could come back in and be a strong figure and important part of this story to 1 man now, instead of an entire world. Which is ironically more important.. as the man she has influence over, will have the power to destroy worlds.
Maul should have been the presence of Obi-Wan's conflict over the first 3 episodes.
Imagine if Anakin had been intensly trained by Maul for over a decade and never damaged on Mustafar. Instead he turns on Obiwan in a 3 way fight (mirroring the Duel of fates in a way), helping Maul defeat him and the Jedi. Anakin has foreseen it, and knows this is his best route to ultimate power. He now thinks like a machine, even though his body is all human. Feeling emotion ironically would have been good for this jedi, making the love between him and Padme even more important. At some point in this story..She needs to be killed instead of dying from a broken heart, it needs to be made to look like the remaining Jedi did it to kill or corrupt his potential offspring. She does give birth before succumbing to injuries, they are immediately separated with Leia being taken away before anakin arrives. He sees Obiwan escaping with an infant Luke. Anakin sees Yoda and Mace with his dead lover. They will have to buy Obiwan some time to get away.
Anakin in a rage defeats Yoda and Mace..killing Mace.
So, after knowing he has learned all he can from Maul, Anakin then kills Maul when Maul presents his treachery to the Emperor. Anakin now takes his place at the side of the Emperor, to learn even more about the power of the dark side.
Obiwan realises Maul was never his true enemy, just a bridge to what would be.

You're all right. What we got was better.

AOTC sucks! There are a few awesome takeaways, but overall the movie sucks! The Last Jedi simply sucks way worse that AOTC! I spent 15 years thinking nothing in the SW universe, asides from the Christmas special, could be worse. Then Rian Johnson said, "Hold my space creature titty milk!"

The problem with the prequels was the dialogue.
The framework was there in the prequels and the story is very coherent, coherent enough that it translated really well into the original trilogy. It just needed better execution and much more competent screen writing with better dialogue.
With that said, the prequels are absolutely amazing at world building and lore building and spawned new spin offs and other franchises. The sequels have no capability of doing that and that's why they failed and should be removed from canon.

The dialogue is terrible and an inordinate number of the scenes are people walking and talking in hallways to mask the fact that the entire set was CGI.

Shits still shite. The sequels being just as bad didn't suddenly make them better.
That said the eu around the prequels was still alright.

I don't care what anyone says.
Episode III is a legitimately good movie.
