What income do you need to live comfortably in extreme high cost of living cities

Like San Francisco or New York City, Los Angeles.

What does live comfortably? Owning a house vs renting an apartment along is a big question

NYC (assuming 2 kids) - $750K

If you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.

DC area— I’d say $250k–$300k/ year minimum if you have kids to feel comfortable middle class.

Exactly, where I am now I could be comfortable on $35k, for my wife to be comfortable add $100k

My cousin was paying over $5k for an apartment in SF. He lived in the city, it was maybe 750sft. He lived in an above average apartment but he moved back to BR because 2 kids in 750sft was not ideal, he is "saving" $2000 a month renting a house off of highland that is obscene. He develops apps and his wife is a "designer" for the apps so they can work wherever and make whatever they want... When they need money they just ship the kids to my aunts and work seemingly 24/7 for a couple of weeks...

Just a one time payment of $450k from Uncle Sam will do.

Define living comfortably. Living in the city proper or in the burbs? Kids or not?

Not sure of the heroin prices, but San Franshithole is quit affordable. You can sleep in the subway stations, shite on the sidewalks, and shoplift up to $900 worth of loot before you are popped.

This really is true. Life circumstances have me back in an apartment in my 40’s and it really does suck in a lot of ways. But, no maintenance so that’s a plus.

That sounds like a movie plot and adderall addiction.
